Why WiMAX?

Here's a QCTimes article detailing a company called Solo Direct Connect's plans to add WiMAX wireless broadband internet to Scott Community College campuses.

Here's an article on HowStuffWorks explaining what WiMAX is and how it works.
To quote that article:

WiMAX has the potential to do to broadband Internet access what cell phones have done to phone access. In the same way that many people have given up their "land lines" in favor of cell phones, WiMAX could replace cable and DSL services, providing universal Internet access just about anywhere you go.

WiMAX is so new that very few US cities are covered at this point, so it could really send a message to tech-savvy young people that the Quad Cities are more than just corn and tractors. I must say that the idea of being able to get wireless service anywhere in the QC, at nearly broadband speeds, has definite appeal to bloggers such as myself.
