The house wins

Corps of Engineers gives Rhythm City permission to move -QCTimes

Update: Friday's longer, better article

I believe this is the final piece of the regulatory puzzle, but they may have a few more boxes to check off before construction can begin.

Though some disagree, I feel that this is good news for Davenport. It will open up a wider stretch of the riverfront, and move the casino operations more towards what I consider the east edge of the downtown riverfront. Now if we can just convince them to turn the music down...

What will be interesting to see is what they do with the Blackhawk at this point. Will they spend money fixing all the fire damage, just to turn it over to Davenport in a couple years when the new hotel is built? Will they just stop using the most heavily damaged floors and save whoever ends up with it the trouble of gutting them? Or is it all just insurance money anyway...?

QCI, let them crank up that music since the RC complex will have to compete with noise of the Arsenal Bridge their own hotel. No reason the casino should care anymore about those who live downtown than thet do currently. Besides with the other casino moved from downtown R.I. that area will also need a musical reminder of the closest gaming entertainment. What is good for the casinos is good for all, just good fun.

Hopefully the mythical design review board that doesn't include any downtown residents will insist on NOT blasting music around the riverfront. I can't say that I've ever been walking past the casino, heard the top 40's music, and immediately felt I needed to gamble.

Conservative Demo here:
I personally feel very curmudgeonly about the gambling businesses hereabouts. The damned things look and sound no better than a carnival midway, their tv commercials are at the class level of the tacky car dealer commercials,, and their billboard signs around the QC only reinforce my perception.

Wow, glad to get that rant off my chest.

Now they can turn their attention to what to do with the albatross/meth lab AKA the blackhawk hotel. Remember that historic beloved building that they turned into a low budget flophouse for their high rollers? Seems like everyone has forgotten about the last revitalization (or was it the one before last?) of downtown that worked so well.

Man, you bloggers are so negative. Things could be so much worse. Nuff said.
