Weekend Open Thread
Behave yourselves, as I won't be around to moderate.
I'm off to Maquoketa and who knows where else.
13 people + 4 tents + 4 vehicles - any organization = good times.

Ok, the ultimate example of stupidity in Davenport. I don't know if this is a construction company's fault or traffic engineering. (Based on previous acts, I'm guessing traffic engineering.) There is a detour for East Locust St. The signs let cars through eastbound Locust at Eastern, but has a truck detour. Plenty good. If you follow that detour it takes you south on Eastern Ave. and turns you east toward Jersey Ridge. In somone's infinate wisdom we are now routing TRUCK TRAFFIC under an eight foot eight inch railroad overpass. (The lowest overpass in Davenport, but I could be wrong on that one.) We spend a fortune on signs that don't work on Harrison, then we route trucks somewhere else in town to a lower overpass. I guess the Harrison overpass has lost some of it's entertainment value. Regardless of who's doing this is, I think it's time that Davenport be introduced to the 6 P's. Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.
Pioneer, I am sure construction will start this year as the proposal surfaced over a year ago. That area was successful in stopping a Kwik Shop Mega-plex, so I sure the city wants to show it favors a local developer.
How about the earth day downtown cleanup you were organizing QCI? How many people showed, and how much trash did your group clean up? BTW: Alderman Meyer's group that cleaned up Credit Island had over 100 participants. Everyone is waiting to hear how yours went.
It wasn't for Earth Day, it's on May 11th, and I've had little to no interest from anyone. I could start emailing various people and guilt tripping and all that, but its not really my style. We'll see what happens.
It's really negative of you to not give credit to Alderman Meyer QCI. You say it was a river action cleanup, but the only one that told me about it was alderman Meyer. Also the small group that I was with found out about it from Keith's posting on the blog. Please don't be such an againster. Both Keith and Hammerlink are trying their best to make Davenport a better place for all of us. My thanks to Keith for making the park cleanup a success. One last thought: if you want your cleanup to be a success downtown May 11th, ask Keith to help you. People really like him and will be glad to volunteer. Keith would do anything for anybody, even those who are against him constantly.
"River Action has a clean up today,Saturday, of its trails, from 3-5. Meet at the Lodge at Credit Island.
And thanks you to all those out there who make every day an Earth Day.
Alderman Meyer"
So which is it? Meyer's cleanup or River Action's cleanup, like Meyers himself said?? Don't give this guy any false credit, all though he needs all he can get.

Does anyone know if/when this building is going to happen:
Apartment building bringing new housing to area

The building is going to begin soon. Dick McNamara was down at the County Building a few weeks ago, and said the plan is a go.

The TRUCK DETOUR goes north on Eastern to Kimberly. All you have to do is read the signs.

Its also not my cleanup, I just wanted to put together a team. Also, it wasn't Alderman Meyer's cleanup, it was River Action. Get your facts straight.
Gezz, I didn't know there was a trash clean up contest.
