Shootout at the Crestwood Corral / Open Thread

It was either too late at night, or deemed unimportant, but it didn't make the QCTimes. The trouble's already starting up out in the warzone known as Crestwood Village and Northwood Village. Multiple 911 calls of shots fired, people seen carrying either a shotgun or BB gun, (big difference) and people scattering into apartments. A number of police units responded, only to find a gas leak in addition to their shooting problem. Firefighters were already on the way to a possiblly dangerous area in case of shooting victims, only to hear that more companies were being called out because of a natural gas leak. Despite the problems at 14th and Gaines, the real race for most police calls to a single area is probably between Heatherton and the Northwood/Crestwood Villages. Dahl employees will probably be out this morning checking their cars for bullet holes.

And its not even hot out yet.

Anyone who even considers cutting police should have to spend a night out there this summer when its 85 degress out and tensions are high.

That whole complex is now for sale. It went through foreclosure a few weeks ago, and the lender did not even ask for their whole balance due. I think they were owed around 8 million, but agreed to settle for around 4 million. Anyway, the bank owns it now and wants out of it.

It didn't make it to the QCTimes because they refuse to print anything about the crime problems we have in this city. Maybe if they pulled their head out of the sand and allowed people to see what is really going on in our city we would be able to make some much needed changes.

Conservative Demo here:
While I don't quibble with any of windinghills' points, someone needs tell the man that the way he says it shouts out an awful lot about him and totally overpowers his theses.

Yeah... I agree. Windinghills, that post is should probably be deleted, but since this is your first offense, I'll leave it up... Try to be a little less foul-mouthed, it just makes people discount your opinion.

You got 1 more strike than the QCTimes.comments thing would have given you.

Personally I like Bill Wundram. You have to take into account that the guy's like 80-some years old. If I can still drive and operate a computer when I'm 80, I'll be impressed. The guy knows his audience: Baby boomers and older.

This was being discussed over on QC Media Review, and I thought they were overly harsh on him over there too. Sure, I hate his reprints of common emails, and think he's a name dropper, but the guy loves Davenport more than anybody I know.

Paula Sands... lets say I am closer to agreeing with you, but nobody need to be called that particular word.

This being the open thread, I'll post this here.
Parks and Recreation must be fat and comfortable since today up at Garfield Park Lovewell Fencing was installing a lot of tall steel fence posts for a new several-lane batting cage.
$15K maybe?

More likely it was paid for by the Little Leagues. They've made most of the baseball-related improvements down there. I don't know if they still do it, but they used to get some funds every year by working at the air show concession tents. That's how they paid for the grass infield and some of the scoreboards.

Winding hills - I totally agree with you on Paula. I worked at a clothing store years ago and... well.... She showed her true colors. But calling anyone that name is a bit much.

I double dare windinghills to call Niky the C word.

Im a boomer and I think the post by QCI that we are all Wundrum fans should be deleted. We are much too young to be entertained by his fiction.
Boomers brought you into this world QCI show some respect :).

The difference betwen 14th adn Gaines and this place is that 14th and G is in a major residential area which is actually filled with some decent homeowners who are not wanting to move because a few landlords don't give a crap. The other place is a low income housing project area and people can choose or not to move there. There are old people at 14th and G who have lived there when it was a nice place.

QuadCityImages said...

There are decent people trying to live in Northwood Village too. All renters aren't criminals like some people seem to think.

QC TImes won't report the true crime but you can do your own legwork through the Police Department. It's easy. Here's an example. Over 800 (yea, that's 800) police calls to the Central Community Circle neighborhood last year. That's known in town as John Lewis Land. over 300 of those calls were to the homeless shelter and another 100 to the JLCS cafe. now where do you want to live? now how bad do we need a skatepark?

"...you can do your own legwork through the Police Department. It's easy."
Please tell us, how do you go about getting this kind of info? Is it something you can get off a website or do you have to have the time to go to the police station?

JLCS attracts and retains criminals to the QCA and the central city of Davenport. Why do you think that those neighborhood people in the central city criticized them so badly a few years back. We have a homeless camp in the very smae area that needs revitalization. We need to balance the wervices with the revitalization efforts of the area. We shoudl chareg JLCS fro the public services provided. Ask the people in those neighborhoods if they want JLCS there. They don't and they are still forced to pay for the place and its problems.

The thing is, there's a difference between JLCS crime and Crestwood crime, and the difference is bullets.

To windinghills, The "C" word?!?!?! My god, what are you 12? The worst word in the book, and you use it to describe Paula Sandovol? Let's keep the "C" word to people who deserve it. (Niky & Marcia Lense)

What do you mean there is a difference in the kind of crime between JLCS and the other place?

Drunks, sex offenders, gang members, etc.

Seems the only differenc between the kind of criminals is that JLCS gets millions of our hard earned tax dollars to house and deal with their criminals. My property value is in joepary because of the JLCS criminals roaming my alley. ( I though JLCS helped people find a job - little did I know the job was panhandling).

QuadCityImages said...

My one word explanation was too complicated for you? The people out there having shootouts are not JLCS clients.

QCI -- how do you know?

Crime stats can be requested from the Crime Prevention unit of the Police Department. THey can run a report however you want it. Tell them the time period you want to look at. Name an address or a street. Even an entire area. Ask for certain crimes or everything. The report comes from the computer so it shouldn't take more than a few days if they're busy. No one down there should tell you no you cant have the information. The PD has been great about saying YES. I;m not sure if its self-serve yet but it should be and from the city website.

Anonymous said...

Are you sure???

You are niave QCI - who do you think is served by JLCS?

Go check the Pre-trial release list, guess where the criminals are registering with the court.

QuadCityImages said...

I didn't say there aren't criminals at JLCS. I said they aren't the ones shooting at each other. The ones involved with the shootouts have addresses out on Paul Revere and those streets in "Goose Creek," 3800 blocks of College, Bridge, etc out in the Villages, or the 3500 block Heatherton. Its just not the same crowd as the folks who go to the JLCS.

Is that what Kate Ridge told you. She will say anything to get her empire built.

That's what personal experience and a degree in law enforcement told me.
