The casino is blocking the end of the bridge at the moment, but if and when the hotel gets built, it will move upstream. Hopefully IOC will keep some sort of top floor public overlook area on the hotel, but it sounds like they are copping out and just going with the "Eagle Watch Terrace" on the roof of the parking garage. I still think that the riverfront will be better than it is now though.
QCI, how could you? You removed the thread on Shawn Hamerlinck, and it seemed to me it was getting really interesting. Are you trying to surpress Mr. Hamerlinck's support? For the benefit of our readers, I will point out that the thread mentioned that Shawn's 2nd Ward meeting was the largest ever in Davenport politics and that many people came from outside his ward, too. Hamerlinck for Mayor in 07!!!
The skybridge really is an observation deck over the riverfront. It needs a better name than "skybridge". I've kept track, and there has only been 1 time that I drove by it and did not see at least 1 person in it, and that was a Sunday morning at 7:00AM in January.
My brother had his wedding rehearsal dinner at Centro this past summer, and the skybridge was the perfect place to take our out-of-town guests afterwards. Think of what you can see from it: the Figge, John O'Donnell, Centennial Bridge, government bridge, Crescent Bridge, the Arsenal, the dome at Augustana College, LeClaire Park & bandshell, the District, etc. Oh yeah, and the River itself. And I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff, too.
The skybridge is already built, so its a pointless discussion. Either go out and enjoy it, or don't. Personally, I'm going to continue to enjoy it, and take guests on it whenever possible.
The only constructive discussion we could have on it now would be on how to make it better, increase traffic on it, etc.

It was supposed to be a bridge to somewhere until the City decided to build a hotel and parking lot on the other side. Now it is a bridge to nowhere.

NO DEAL!!!!
Cons Demo here: Call me what you (and she) wish, nicknames are cheap.
And a beautiful riverfront park it's not. It's a gambling casino parking lot in front of a tacky-looking carnival-like flim-flam show.

I've never removed any thread... it may have gotten bumped off the front page, but its somewhere.
From Fiddler on the Roof's "If I were a Rich Man"
I'd have one long staircase just going up and one even longer coming down and ONE LEADING NOWHERE JUST FOR SHOW.
And that is what I think of when the bridgeis mentioned. If it went across the river that would be pretty cool.

all for the bargain basement price of $200 for every man woman and child in the city?
I think you mean $5. That's what the City of Davenport paid ($500,000) divided by 100,000 Davenport residents. (I know its 97,000, but come on)
