Open Thread, but I know what it will turn into...

So....

Meyer walks out of meeting after stormy session -QCTimes

At this point Keith has lost all effectiveness. He's accusing people of lying, slamming his usual allies, and just generally acting like there's a huge anti-Keith conspiracy. I can't imagine another 2 years of this if he were to get reelected.

The RCReader continues to defend him, and I'm sure many blog commenters will too, but in my opinion he's really lost it over the last 2 months. Make sure and read Keith's 2am post on the QCTimes comments.

The City needs the right Mayor in place to solve these issues. These Alderman need a strong leader and let me tell ya.

THey aint got chit now but a big top circus and ring leader

Who, out of the 3 running, would that be?

we could always randomly pick a name out of the phone book and write in?

Anonymous said...

So does this mean the housing market in Rock Island is going to go up since most of Davenport will be leaving due to lack of leadership?
What was life like in council chambers before Ald. Meyer?

Anonymous said...

Q C Times article quotes IDED director as to what portions of the application were confidential.

We have no way of knowing what Meyer gave to the Dispatch, however, if it was the entire package, he violated confidentiality.

The Dispatch reporting most likely did not reference confidential information, except with the possibility of the developer information.

Given how hard Meyer has worked to kill the eServ deal, his frustration must be enormous.

His actions from the start have been infantile, moronic and childish.

i'll attempt to go more on the 'open thread' tip...
so, what's everyone think of the Coexistence banners downtown? yay? nay?

Yay

Holy smokes! I'm trying to get through the committee meetings on Ch. 18 this morning-Meyer's already given me a migraine! "Honest to God!"

Anonymous said...

I totally agree with QCI. Meyer now goes after one of his biggest allies in Hammerlinck. It's no wonder NO ONE, repeat NO ONE wants to even take the chance in working with Meyer. He has TOTALLY lost his marbles.
As Keith would say;

We all have our opinions so let me ask you who do you stand by

Gluba who we know nothing about
Howard who we know TO much about
Yerington who has led the city in the past for 4 years?

Which one do you honestly think can come into this MESS and clean it up

Anonymous said...

Gluba is the person I will be supporting. He brings NO baggage to this mess, and has good judgement. I think he will let everyone play in the sand box fairly.
Go Gluba!

Anonymous said...

sorry, I posted last, but I'm not QCI.
Sorry about that.

Anonymous said...

Do you all remember last time what was said about Winborn - the same thing. That he is fresh and has no baggage. Look how that turned out.

And Shelly - I am sorry, but you also on occasion give one a headache with your illusive positions. Think outside the blleding heart box every once in a while and see things for what they really are. Maybe then will your crime crime problems stop.

QuadCityImages said...

Basically, I'm inclined to support the candidate I know the least about, which is Gluba. As I find out more about him, I may be either more confident in that vote, or more depressed about my options.

Snarky Chick said...

QCI, I hope people actually look at the candidate this time instead of just voting for "someone else". Didn't work out so well w/ Winborn.

I am really disappointed in Meyer. When you are suddenly turning on people who have consistently been on your side in the past it's past time to go play in a different sandbox. I am pretty sure the voters of the 3rd ward will feel the same way after all these antics. They do deserve a professional and the other two candidates sound promising.

Keith had improved so much from his rocky start on the council. He seems determined to go out with a bang. I was very surprised to see him running after his recent actions.

QuadCityImages said...

He thinks he has more support than he actually does. I heard a rumor from a few people that he considered running for At-Large, which would have been a quick end to his time on the council.

One of the things that bothers me the most is that if anyone disagrees with him, they're just part of the Malin/D1 conspiracy. I've never heard him say, "well, we all just have different opinions on what's best for Davenport." I'm pretty sure he thinks that many of his opponents really aren't trying to help Davenport. I mean, I'll admit that Keith is doing what he thinks is right for the city; I just disagree with him on what that is. Admitting that your opponent is not evil is a key step to working together...

Snarky Chick said...

Yep, I totally agree with you QCI. Kind of relates to my post from last night.

Here is what happened...Clayton Lloyd has grown old and incompetent. He actually should not even technically still be in Davenport. His replacement is on her way. Anyway, Lloyd did lie to Meyer, but he is so old he does not remember lying, so he honestly believes his own crap. Two suggestions:

Send Clayton packing already.

Re-elect Meyer.

QuadCityImages said...

Clayton Lloyd is not as old as you may think. He's absolutely not "incompetent". There's no way Clayton would have said something like that; haven't you seen how carefully he words things? Even if he believed the 10 out of a 100 thing, which I bet he doesn't, he's definitely smart enough not to say it to Keith Meyer. It takes a lot to cause Clayton to raise his voice, and the fact that Keith was able to make him is not a good sign.

Anonymous said...

Oh I have been around Lloyd and he is a liar on occasion. He is also absolutely a pain in the ass. His way or the highway and just frustrating as all get out. Liar liar pants on fire.

Anonymous said...

well after watching the video of the casino marketing plan at the river center clayton seems like he knew his stuff more than the guy running the center.

Anonymous said...

Why shouldn't he, it is his job after all. Something that he doens't demand of those he supervises. Clayton always has his crap together, especially when it is imperative that he supports a certain position for Davenport One and the crew at the IOC.

If he really had it together, he would have made certain the IOC was there.

Anonymous said...

Hey QCI - I have noticed that your cynical side is showing lately. You are becoming rude and kind of a smart ass. What gives? You always criticized people who act that way.

Anonymous said...

Sorry to say, but Gluba's got baggage, too.

First of all, he's about 20 years past his prime. He had his stint in the legislature and his votes and stuff are all available.

Second of all, he ran for a House seat last year and got nowhere. He basically drove around in his van and went Howard Dean on everybody. I'm sure people agree with that, but it's not a very effective way of getting your message across. In any event, it's baggage, because we know that he's a pretty partisan guy.

Finally, Ed Winborn is actually a pretty stand up individual. But, he "didn't work out" as people have said. Honestly? At this point it tells me more about our system and our city council than it does about Winborn. Basically, you can put anyone in the "mayor's house," and it "won't work out" as long as our city council is as inept as it has always been.

Anonymous said...

so why does davenport have the lock on eccentric elected officials around the quad cities? Is their council chamber haunted? Bad Feng Shwa? When was the last time anything 'fun' happened in the other three council chambers? Or does everyone else have better handlers/babysitters?
Maybe they should all take a field trip down the road and watch how Bettendorf runs their town.

Anonymous said...

Winborn is not an upstanding guy. He spreads false rumors about others publicly. He is immature and inappopriate. Don't be fooled again folks. Look into Gluba too.

Last time Winborn got elected because he was the new guy, look what happened.

Anonymous said...

What false rumors has Winborn spread? Immature? Inappropriate? If you are going to make these statements, they have to be believable, you need to site specific examples.

Sounds more like a description of Meyer. Rumors; about eServ, the developer, other council members and all of other public criticisms. Immature; storming out of meetings if things don't go his way. Inappropriate; always at odds with every view but his own.

Anonymous said...

Winborn is a little weasel. Face it and move on.

QuadCityImages said...

Again, how about backing up your pointless statement with some actual thought, examples, or facts?

Anonymous said...

There is a rumor that Clayton Lloyd might have the onset of early dementia, which would explain why he lied to Kieth. I have also heard that this might be why he is retiring. I am not sure if this is true, but it would explain a lot about Clayton.

QuadCityImages said...

That is the biggest load of bullshit I've ever read on here. I'm sure he's sick of the circus, just like a lot of people.

Anonymous said...

Actually, I have not weighed in on this yet, but to be honest it seems to me that Clayton may have some issues. I remember him coming up to the mike one time and it seems he was trembeling a bit. Maybe just my imagination, but I also have not known Kieth to lie. Kieth can be many things including irrelevant and obnoxious, but I don't think he is a liar. So, if Kieth says Clayton lied, I would tend to believe him.

Anonymous said...

Now I suppose we are going to be told that Liz Talman also has dementia which she acquired from working with Clayton Lloyd.

Anyone who has read one of Meyer's rambling posts on a blog knows where the real problem is.

Anonymous said...

You may not like Winborn as a mayor, that's fine. But to pretend that Winborn is not an "upstanding guy" just shows you've never met the man. He's a first class individual and a first class businessman (which is the type of leader this city needs - business-savvy... Anyone else tired of cops and basic know-nothings like Meyer running the show? Not that I have a problem with cops).

Anonymous said...

He is a lying rumor starting ass.

QuadCityImages said...

Again, way to give examples.

When you say things like that you just hurt your own side of the argument. We might as well be like 13 year olds yelling "You suck" if that's the kind of arguments people are going to use.

Most of us old enough to remember know that Charles Yerrington was his son's best adviser. Phillip would even make mention that, on several issues, he would have to talk it over with his father first before making his decision. That was honorable, great father son duo. But after Charles passed, Phillip became more angry, short tempered, and made a few bad decisions. One being the loss of what became the Mark. We won't talk about the fight with FEMA and the botched flood efforts, lawsuit with Niki Bowels, his own lawsuit with the city, etc.... Yes, Phillip comes with baggage, but what makes him qualified to be mayor of this quagmire of a city council? Maybe he should keep selling shoes and leave busines to the grown-ups.

Anonymous said...

Many of us who have met Clayton Lloyd know that he has suffered from some problems in his life. I think he has served the City reasonably well in the time he has been here, but it is becoming increasingly obvious to many of us that the time for his retirement appears to be at hand. It is not his fault if he does have some form of dementia, and he certainly would not have meant to lie to Kieth, but if things like that are happening then it is time for him to go already.

Anonymous said...

I couldn't agree more. A man with dementia would not be good for the City.

Anonymous said...

To you that insist that Lloyd has dementia and is not being truthful about a conversation with Meyer:

Meyer has stated that Liz was also at the conversation yet she has said that she remembers nothing about what was said. Does that mean she also had dementia or some other problem that causes a lapse in memory.

You Meyer lovers should grow up and start using a little common sense.

Anonymous said...

I don't know who Clayton's friend Liz is, but if she is truly a friend of his, then she would not lie for him. My grandfather had dementia, and when he quit working it was the best thing for him. The best thing for Clayton to do is step down if indeed he does suffer from dementia.

QuadCityImages said...

This whole conversation is just ridiculous. We might as well be debating whether Alderman Ambrose has leprosy. Alderman Meyer is just wrong about something, and you people are coming up with wild theories to explain it away and deny it. Clayton Lloyd is one of the few people down there that comes across as professional. I guess the whole council has dementia too.

Anonymous said...

QCI, if there is some basis to Lloyd having dementia, you should not be in such a rush to explain it away. I think it makes a lot of sense, and I am not saying this because I dislike Mr. Lloyd. I just want what is best for the city, and perhaps it is time for him to step down.

QuadCityImages said...

I've seen just as much evidence for Alderman Ambrose having leprosy as I have for Clayton having any health problems. The guy runs the Bix faster than people my age. This whole thing is silly, and people are debating it like its a real thing.

Anonymous said...

QCI - you need to get perspective on your reaction to Lloyd vs Meyer.
You are the first to critize for improper language - however, your 6:13 post on 9/1 was out of line. A blog is a place for opinions right or wrong - true or untrue and for the readers to decide what they want to believe or not believe. By you providing this blog does a service to those who read them. This is not to be critical of you, but to help remind you of what you have asked from us to respect individual opinions.

Anonymous said...

"Again, how about backing up your pointless statement with some actual thought, examples, or facts?" is "out of line"!? Is this Bizzaro Blog?

QuadCityImages said...

I am just shocked and appalled that commenters are throwing around these completely false rumors about a decent guy who has put in decades of service for the city.

If it was just one lunatic suggesting such a thing, fine, but people are debating this as though its real. I can give you complete assurance that Clayton Lloyd does not have dementia, any other mental health issue, or probably any health issue whatsoever. He's probably in better shape than everyone commenting here, me included.

This is an education in ugly rumors I guess, but this blog is not the place for ugly rumors aimed only at hurting someone. I fought back angrily when people attacked Alderwoman Moritz, and I'll fight back angrily now.

Anonymous said...

Clayton Lloyd is in better shape then anybody on this blog? Now who is exagerating QCI? He is thin as a rail, his hair is as grey as it gets, and if I am not mistaken he trembles a bit when he speaks. And, you are ignoring one big point...the guy is retiring! Why do you suppose that is???

Anonymous said...

Could be that he wants to retire?

QuadCityImages said...

Trust me, he's probably in better shape than you. Grey hair and being thin does not mean you're in bad shape. This slandering needs to stop, or I'm going to start locking comments. This man has done nothing to deserve you people lying about him.

And once again, I know for a fact that these people are 100% lying.

It always makes me feel better when people who disagree with me come out as liars and jerks.

Anonymous said...

Once again...here comes the Meyer conspiracy theorist. I am soooo sick of these whacko's. If their boy Keith keeps stepping in it, every citizen in entire city of Davenport will have some sort of a disorder.
Other than their man Keith.

Anonymous said...

Meyer may be a wacko with some of his conclusions, but their is no evidence to show that he has ever lied about factual matters. Lloyd is not assumed to be a liar, but if Meyer is telling the truth, then there are only two logical conclusions....

1. Lloyd lied
2. Lloyd has a disease that makes him forgetful and so he did not realize that he lied.

Of the two choices, choice number two is more honorable.

QuadCityImages said...

Wait, you forgot theory #3. Space aliens came down, and replaced Clayton with a clone of himself, who wasn't there to hear the supposed remark, and therefore said he didn't say it.

Or there could be an explanation that doesn't require wild-assed theories to justify it: Meyer was wrong. I love how you people are guessing mental illness rather than just admit he may have made a mistake.

I wonder what he'd have to do to lose some of your support? Punch Susie Bell? Rob a bank?

Anonymous said...

QCI, I am not even a Meyer supporter, I just know that the man does not lie. He researches things like crazy, and he never, ever lies. Wierd conclusions? Sure. But lying...no! I am not sure about Mr. Lloyd having the same stellar record on truthfulness.

Anonymous said...

Meyer never lies???? maybe, but has a TOTALLY distorted/conspiracy view on everything/everybody in this GREAT city called Davenport. He needs to take his dogs for a walk over the Centennial Bridge and call that home.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps when Meyer is walking his dogs over the bridge, he will stumble into Lloyd, who may be walking around aimlessly in his pajamas, and they will both fall over the bridge!

Grow up people.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the last poster. It is not concievable that Meyer would be stupid enough to be walking his dogs over the bridge. Now Lloyd in his pajamas on the bridge COULD actually happen, if what we are hearing turns out to be true about him.

QuadCityImages said...

"What you are hearing" is not true. What you are hearing is a rumor purposely started by a liar. If that's the kind of thing you're into, this blog isn't for you.

Anonymous said...

The Meyer "klan" will go to the end of the earth to cover for their boy Keith, right or wrong, and this thread proves it.
YOU ARE ALL RIDICULOUS AND NOTHING SHORT THAN OUT & OUT LIARS!

Thank goodness Meyer's remaining days are few.

After reading the Times article this morning, I thought I should go to the blogs and check on my health. Contrary to some persons' judgment, I do not have dementia. I do forget things sometimes. I have for years.

However, I am most confident that I would remember what Alderman Meyer asserted that I had said. In the meeting to which he referred, I do recall him wondering about how many persons who would be employed at a site near the Davenport-Bettendorf border would be expected to live in Davenport. I am confident I gave no specific response. I most certainly would not speculate that only 10 of 100 employees would choose to live in Davenport. (I chose to live in Davenport 21 years ago and expect to reside here after my retirement.)

These comments are the gist of my response when the issue arose at the City Council Committee meeting. My recollection of that discussion has not changed.

I am retiring after having given 34+ years of service to local governments in the Quad City community. I have devoted many hours to my work. There are many things I have not been able to do because of the demands of my employment. I now am choosing to begin to shift the commitment of those hours from my employment to other pursuits.

One of those pursuits is running. Despite the opinions of some who have defended me on this blog, I do not consider that I have run well in recent years. I hope to do better in the months to come.

Relative to the Times story, please note that I am responding on my own time.

Clayton Lloyd

Thanks Clayton.
