It was a hot time on the ol' police scanner last night. Some problems in the 3rd street bar area early on, and later an incident at 315 W Locust. I've driven past and seen several squad cars in the alley behind the Kwik Shop there before, so apparently that house is a trouble spot. Apparently a crowd of folks were hanging around outside, and the cops converged on the area on foot. At least one person ran and I heard one call of a gun being spotted, although I never heard anything further about the gun. The person that ran was caught, and found to be wanted. Another criminal off the streets courtesy of the DPD. Sometimes I think we should be putting blue ribbon magnets on our cars for these folks out there in their own local war zone. Hopefully when we get our new Chief we can dump the no-chase policy and really start cracking down.
Believe it or not, all this arguing really wears me out. I don't turn back from a comments-filled debate, but sometimes they cause me to write few actual posts. I'm still working on a post about the downtown residents' meeting last Monday, and still gathering facts about the East Village thing. And of course spending too much time debating in the comments.
Also, I hope Rudy doesn't judge us by our food, because everyone knows the best Magic Mountains are the hash brown ones.

Good job Shawn Hamerlinck who made the list for best local politician! We appreciate the job you do for us. Go Shawn Go!!!
He hasn't done much with controlling the slumlords in his ward. With this new "rent to own" policy, the cops will not be able to use the nuisance property abatement on the Howards and the like. Seems that all the thugs need to do is drop 3% down (one nights income) to secure a house and the city can't conduct code enforcement on th property. Way to go Shawn!
The cops are doing the best they can, but many of the clubs encourage a ghetto attire. They need to quit playing the house music at ear piercing decibles at the Carriage Haus and at Shennanigans, and that will go a long way towards quieting the crime problems.
QCI, why would you trash a local institution like Ross' Magic Mountain? That is like trashing Harris Pizza, Rudy's or Whitey's. These are famous QC itmes that we should all be proud of.
I heard a rumour that Howard is thinking of backing out of the mayor's race and going back at Large or maybe just 6th ward.
The rumour is she figured out she can 't win. She figured she probably wouldn't even survive the primary.
Anyone else heard anything about that?
With all the fuss about whether Meyer leaked confidential info or not, what is the bottom line? Is eServe still moving to D'port, or are they going to back out because the cat was let out of the bag?
It is not a done deal. It was not a done deal before Meyer.
As of a Week ago eSrev had not signed the original copy of the application with IDED.
I doubt we will know the status until it is announced as a done deal or we hear that they have moved on.
Wait, when did I slam Ross'?
I go there all the time. All I said was that the hash brown Magic Mountain is better than the french fry one.
As far as Alderwoman Howard, I hope she runs for 6th Ward, because I agree she'd probably have a rough time for Mayor.
Alerman Howard is a total kiss ass, QCI. When D1 jumps, she asks how high? Why would you want her as alderman?
Because QCI asks how high also!
Well, to be honest, I never said I do want her as Alderman.
I've already said I like Gluba for Mayor, which pretty much says I don't want Howard there.
However, I'm not sure if I want Dale Gilmour to win in the 6th, so that might be ok, as Howard is a known quantity.
what's worng with Gilmour? He would have been better than Brooke - if he only had a handful more votes last time. Oh well - back to reality.
Yes, QCI, Howard is a known quantity. So is pig manure. So what!!!
QCI: I thought you were changing. How can anyone honestly want Howard to return to office. Gosh QCI. And really, what is wrong with Gilmore? Exactly - what is the problem you have with him?
Last election I believe I endorsed him, so I don't think I have that much of a problem with him.
Howard and Dumas I could take or leave. They both usually vote the way I like on things, but they don't put as much into the job as some of the others.
There's a really great guy running for 6th ward. His family is well known in Davenport for their service to the community. He is a business person with a history of also working on civic community improvement. He hasn't formally announced yet, but he'll be tough to beat.
I have to believe that Howard is coming to the realization that she wouldn't have much of a chance of winning the mayor's race. I'm personally not a fan or hers. Regarding Ross's, I used to have a job that required me to make deliveries to the kitchen there once a week. I can tell you that after one trip to that kitchen, I vowed to never eat a meal there.
