I saw a notice in the QCT that it was moved from last nite. The meeting tomorrow is the last chance before the 'working session' to complain before the council does what it wants to do. Three options: Let the casino have the river center and make them operate (and take the losses from) it. Make them move out to some greenfield and watch the river center lose all its money making clients to the new events center in Bettendorf. Pour 10-20 million into the river center to expand and update it and build another hotel so they can compete with Bettendorf.
Bill Lynn just dumped on your neighborhood..and you didn't even know it ! It was under the radar, wasn't picked up by the media and was missed by the blogs. What am I talking about. Ordinance 2007-329 amending the Property Maintenance Code signed August 1, 2007. What this ordinance allows are landlords to be exempt from rental inspection if they have a "rent-to-own" or "lease-to-buy" program on their rental where the tenant puts down a minimum of 3% on the purchase. In the past "rent-to-owns" were still considered a rental and subject to inspection because the tenant was not recorded on the deed. All of that is out the window. Now for the price of a damage deposit, any tenant can purchase on time his own little slum house in Davenport. It's a great deal for the landlord because he gets out of having the property inspected, he transfers all maintenance and repairs to the tenant and since these documents are not recorded, when the tenant can no longer make payments the landlord can start all over with a new tenant. What a racket! Ald. Lynn and the other council members who signed off on this ordinance have done a great disservice to the City and older neighborhoods. This is predatory lending at its finest. Rentals will go further into disrepair and affect the value of your property and the City is prohibited from doing anything about it under this ordinance. Thanks for nothing Bill Lynn. I hope you got a big fat campaign check from Dan Lubell and the QCRPA and "shame on you" council members who voted for this nonsense.
We as a city cannot really run private commerce so we should let the river center go to the casino. They can run something like this much better then we ever could
I think we have put far too much money into the river center to just "let it go". That would be ridiculous. It seems to me that what we need to do is hire professional management. But, lets let the profits go back to the taxpayers, where they belong!
The RiverCenter expansion was a big waste of taxpayer dollars, Now it is empty half the time and we lose tons each year. At least the Isle will put us back in the black.
5:35pm The city did turn it over to 'professional management.' The first guy the 'facility management' company hired to run it stole money. The city then couldn't find anyone else interested in running the place even with the $600K/year incentive on top of the 'management fee.' Let the city cash rent the building with some caveats to the casino and at least have a positive cash flow. What is scary is that they are operating without very much city oversite even though the same staff manages the Adler which is now privately owned by a for profit company.
Okay Okay - the 6th ward as a whole will not vote for both Ian and Gene - not all of them. So, add up the rest of the city votes who will not vote for Meeker, byut for Olsen and see what happens.
All you have to say in the West/North end is PEDCOR and HORIZON Homes and then let's discuss Davenport Ones support of both projects and Ian's vote both and Meekers support for Davenport One. Who exactly is Toast again?
Alderman Meyer asked me to post this comment from him-
The answer to the question is :eServe will be on the Community Development agenda on Thursday, tomorrow at 4:00. Don't look for much action but perhaps drama.
The answer to the question was previously posted above.
The threat is new however. "Drama"? Keith can't leave it alone can he. So what new conspiracy has he come up with? And, who has he run to do his bidding? Let the council handle it, all of them. Keith, you are only one voice, one vote.
The citizens of Davenport elected all of their representatives, that's democracy. Let democracy decide what's best for the constituents.

Isn't it the 30th????

what time is tomorrows meeting??
The meeting is Wednesday night at 5:30 in the RiverCenter South.
I know this is off subject and I apologize, however, I find this a very interesting item:
City of Davenport, Community Development Committee Agenda, item no. 8, for the meeting of 8-30-7:
Resolution approving preliminary approval for economic assistance to the Perot Systems, eServ business expansion project.
This is the first time in front of any council committee or alderman.
Meyer chose to make the eServ application public before the preliminary proposal was ready to submit to council.

It looks like Jamie Howard is running for Mayor again after all.
She barely survived as at-large last election. I predict she will come in behind Gluba and Yerington in the primary.
Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah, hey hey goodbye.
check out new people who have filed for Council on the City's web site.
another prediction: Frink & Meeker will wipe up at large- both are from the heavily voting 6th ward.
Jen Olsen is toast.
Olsen will be toast with dogmeet warmed over on it! Frink and Meeker rule!

Gene Meeker is a Davenport One puppet and people know it and don't like it. Good Luck Gene!!! See ya!

Now we know the drama Meyer promised.
Meyer melts down at committee and goes on a rant...storms out!
Read the Reader for an excellant article on Meyer - the reader lady is correct on this guy. Meyer is awesome and we need him back next term.
