Habitat to build 7-house complex in Rock Island

Look at the article quick, since it'll be unavailable to non-subscribers soon. That's why I don't generally link to QCOnline.
Edit at 16:04: Yep, the article's down already. Apparently that should make you go buy a newspaper instead of reading it online. Seems more like it sends people to QCTimes.com.
Essentially the article states that the city of Rock Island will give Habitat slightly less than a block of park land to develop into 7 Habitat for Humanity houses. The article does not mention the neigbors' reactions, but if it were Davenport they'd be sharpening their pitchforks and lighting their torches. Don't any neighborhood folks use the park? I don't know the area, so maybe there's an obvious reason why its no big deal. Any RI natives want to explain this?

I kind of hope the neighbors raise a stink only because Habitat does not build homes that fit into neighborhoods. I heard that RI (the city) is stepping in to make sure these home fit into the area. They have standards they should follow. In Davenport, the Habitat homes don't fit into the solo area. The program is a good one, but the QC branch must be more open minded and in tune to the needs of the community as well as the people they serve. By promoting homes that don't fit into neighborhoods, does not help anyone in the long term.
Not only do the HH homes not fit into the neighborhoods - worse, the owners are bad neighbors. Has anyone followed up on these places after they're built? Trash everywhere, loud music, overstuffed junk furniture on the decks, yards, driveways and/or curbs. Yards are landscaped with varying size dirt patches where lawn has worn away due to junk cars or car parts or other debris on the lawn. No flowers, no bushes, no outside lights - sometimes trash bags and worse for curtains. Windows broken are mended with duct tape, if at all.
It makes me sick to my stomach. ON a good day.
That seems like a pretty broad generalization, but I definitely agree that HH, JLCS, OR Joe Citizen should try to have their infill home match the surrounding area.
