Isle of Capri plans to move corporate HQ to St. Louis -QCTimes
Its only 150 jobs, but they're probably decent paying jobs, and its a billion dollar company. Bernie Goldstein is from the area, and they have 2 growing casino operations within 5 miles. The optional second phase of the Mississippi Plaza office building would make an ideal home for IOC's head honchos. The Iowa Values Fund seems like the perfect source for an incentive to move here, and surely they'd fork over something for 150 white collar jobs. Plus it sounds like St. Louis county isn't all that thrilled about them coming anyway.
Come on Clayton, give Bernie a call.

QCI: You must remember Davenport did not treat Mr. Golstien so well during the first riverboat siting process a decade ago...and more recent, the new hotel opponents in Davenport. I'm sure with this type of treatment he'd have second thoughts about moving IOC HQ here! Just look at your post on the corps of engineers application...words and actions matter to businessmen!
You may be right anon. It does matter to Corporate folks. It doesn't hurt that St. Louis is a central location for them either, as I'm sure as Biloxi and elsewhere will still draw people.
We can give them the Blackhawk Hotel for a dollar. That should be generous to the Corporate folks. Add the "best City in the Midwest," and "the City with Momentum". What more could they ask for.
The Quad City folks MADE Mr. Bernard Goldstien a multi-millionaire. He can take his corporate gooroo's, and his boat for that matter, and go to St. Louis, and pitch a tent. What a piece of work. Hey Bernie......Can we have OUR riverfront back now? Now that you have fleased every damn dime out of our community and using our riverfront to do so. So you, and your corp. gooroo millionaires can to go to St. Louis and set up shop. You can go for all I care! Cut her lines, and let her float!
Wake up... you know that Isle did some shopping before they moved. Here's an example of a good tax incentive to move jobs to the area. St. Louis seems to be better at it than us. Maybe we should take notes.
P.S. Yes, it may be only 150 jobs, but they are the corporate jobs, the highest paying in the company. I doubt many of those jobs make less than 6 figures unless they're support staff.
Actually, less than 20% of those 150 jobs are in the six figure range, but have been good jobs with a decent wage. Many of the Isle's corporate employees will now be unemployed in an economy and job market devastated by Hurricane Katrina. We've lost our homes and now our livelihood to a city, St Louis, which des not seem to care if the Isle relocates or not...
