Friday morning election rumors

Normally I don't put much stock in rumors, but here are a few I've heard from a fairly reliable source:

1. Bill Gluba is in

2. Bill Lynn is getting signatures to run for Mayor

3. Doc Davis may be dropping out and endorsing Lynn, confirming my worst fears about him.

4. Alderman Barnhill is probably just running for reelection in the 7th

5. At least 3 people will run in the 6th ward

So the big three so far for Mayor are Gluba, Howard, and Lynn. Who gets out of the primary between those 3? And who else may still throw their hat in? I believe Yerington said he wouldn't run if Lynn does, but I may be mistaken. I suspect if Yerington and Lynn both ran, they'd divide their base, probably to the benefit of Gluba and Howard. The same would probably go for Davis. What do you loyal(?) readers think?

Re Alderman Billy, getting signatures is no guarantee of running. Keeping your options open and all that. I wouldn't be surprised if he also gets signatures to run again in the 5th. Don't forget that candidates can file at the deadline and have a few days to withdraw afterwards. We're a long way from knowing the final line-up.

Yerington said in a semi-recent letter to the editor that he would NOT run for mayor. He believes he can affect change in other ways.

where can I learn more about Howard?

I DO hope Lynn runs for mayor, that way this city can start to heal when Gluba starts his term. For lack of a better candidate for 5th ward is the only reason Lynn has been re-elected. We can't support a "slumlord loving" alderman who sides with the rental associations.

I am a 6th ward voter - who is running?

I heard there is at least three, if not four guys running in the 6th. The guy that almost beat Charlie was on Fisher, indicating he was running. The QCTimes had some other guy in the paper announcing. I also heard a young guy named Jason Strang is running. He is a physical therapist here in town. Rumor of a fourth, some brother of a former 5th ward alderman, but I can't recall the name.

Anyone running in the 5th??

She announced today in the QCTimes. She is a keeper, for sure!

Davenport City Council candidate: Lisa Walters Lewis
By Times staff | Friday, August 17, 2007

Davenport voters will elect 10 City Council members and a mayor during elections this year. As candidates announce they intend to run, the Quad-City Times will publish information about them.

Name: Lisa Walters Lewis

Office sought: 4th Ward Alderman

Age: 43

Occupation: Freelance voiceover announcer, actress and writer.

Education: St. Alphonsus, Frank L. Smart and Davenport West High School. Conservatory training in the arts.

Political experience/public service: President of the Screen Actors Guild in Chicago and national board member; executive committee member of the Illinois AFL-CIO; board member and convention delegate for the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists; community policing volunteer in Chicago; volunteer for DeLaCerda House in Rock Island.

Top issues: For all that has been accomplished downtown and on the outskirts of town, I believe that it’s time for some of Davenport’s “momentum” to flow further into our neighborhoods, the true heart of the city. We need positive energy and strong leadership on the council — which means a fresh approach to problem-solving and some true cooperation.

I believe our top priorities in the 4th Ward should be:

Public safety — We need more police on the streets and we need to restructure the department. We also need to energize and expand our community policing efforts.

Neighborhood revitalization — It is vital that we do much more to improve our aging sewers. For some of us in the 4th Ward, one good soaking rain means a basement full of water. We need to improve access to city services (for example, snow and ice removal) and we need to develop a program to improve our alleys. I also believe we have to get the ball rolling again on Taylor School. It would be a shame if we couldn’t put a project together to save it, but we can’t let any more time go by without aggressively seeking a solution.

Progress and growth — It is critical that we actively encourage the type of development that will attract and sustain quality neighbors (business and residential), and we need to devote some time and energy to beautifying and updating our busiest commercial corridors. The opportunities are there. All we need is the infrastructure, enthusiasm and leadership to see things through.

I support Gluba, Howard isnt much of a speaker and Lynn is off the deep end

I heard old Doug Cunningham is running for the 5th. Lynn has it all set up...

Anonymous said...

I live in the 5th, who is this "old Doug Cunningham"? I also heard some skravonski guy was running in the 5th, can anyone tell me about either of them?

Anonymous said...

I heard that yerington might run after all

Anonymous said...

If Yerington runs I hope it's right out of town. We don't need his antics and temper again.

Anonymous said...

Is there only three at large?

Walter Skrovonski is the gentleman that seem to give the current council a ton of headaches. He is at most meetings and uses a "in your face" approach to question the bad decisions the council has may. Such as cutting public services, budget spending, and policing issues. Walter seems to be on the right track but has an abrasive personality, you either like him or you don't. I like him because he's approachable and you know where he stands on an issue.

Yerington had this 'great' article in the Leader about how to 'save' the downtown.
Only proved that he hasn't researched anything about what has been happening down there in five years.
Would see Howard as Mayor before him.

I live in Davenport and have to say Yerington all the way. I would be sad if he didn't take part in the election.
Every man needs a fair shot and he deserves to be part of it. Let the people in the City decide by votes who they want in. I myself would say YES TO YERINGTON

Thank you Phil, for that self endorsing blog. Thanks, but no thanks.

I called it yerington is running

Anonymous said...

Good call Sally, care to predict the fall election?

Anonymous said...

Yes Phil is running and hopefully he will get elected. I will stand by this man all the way

Anonymous said...

The City has gone downhill since Yerington left as Mayor and the people of Davenport should see this and wake up and smell the coffee. Davenport needs a man like this to support not only the City but the people in it as well

Anonymous said...

Your are right, the city has gone down hill since Yerrington left, he's the one that started the ball rolling! Those of your considering voting for this clown need to do a litte research. Phil is NOT the one to lead this city onward.

Phil is one hell of a man and has the support of many. I know I just email phil4mayor08@aol.com to give my supprt and will be signing to get his name in.
I feel his name should be on the ballot and let the voters decide who is in and who is not.

I say anyone who wants to help Phil to email the above address I know I got a fast reply

David,

I bet you also supported Van Fossen in the last election too.

That is where you are wrong but then again you know what ASSUME stands for.

I stand by Yerington because he is a stand up man and isn't afraid to speak his mind.

He is a wonderful man.

When his name shows on the ballot you will see the "fan club" he has I know I just signed for him tonight.
