In the mean time, get your guessing caps on, because we're playing a little game called "Where will IOC want to move to now?" I've created 6 choices, as follows:A. The area between Gaines and Marquette, and River and 5th. Lots of cheap/crappy property in this area.
B. The downtown core. Not much room for a casino complex, except maybe near the Blackhawk.
C. The Crescent Warehouse District and "Crossings" area along 4th and River. The large industrial site of the cement works north of 4th would be a sizable enough area of land for a large casino complex.
D. Somewhere south of River Drive and west of the Centennial, but still near downtown. Unlikely unless we totally scrap the RiverVision plan
E. Somewhere near the existing location south of River Drive near the downtown core
F. Somewhere outside of downtown, such as near I-280. In this case F can stand for "F'in terrible idea."
So, all the anonymice (yes, I made that word up) out there might want to pick a name so they can brag later about choosing the right location.
Personally my bet is for C or F, but as I stated before, the city council should take a dim view of the casino abandoning the downtown.

I vote for Credit Island. What a way to clean it up from the pervs. You could have the boat and a little carnival/amusement park type area. Indoor go-karts for kids, gambling for adults. On site hotel. That could be a HUGE attraction.
I originally thought the cement works area would be the only place downtown where they would possibly have enough room.

This industry has become "the man who came to dinner".
I don't know where people are getting this near I-280 stuff from. I actually know they (IOC) are looking at land at I-80 and Brady (near the Hummer Dealership).
I will remain anonymous, just knowing I'm right is enough for me.
I would say in the area of I-80 between Brady and Perry, there is about 400 acres there and it would do the trick. It would be inline with the traffic of the interstate.
Sorry, QCI, but I still have to go I-80. While the move may hurt downtown, it's the location that makes sense. We may also be wise to remember, nothing is signed yet. The city might put it's foot down, stick to it's guns, and not allow IOC to move.
Where is there a spot on I-80 within 1500 feet of a navagible stream as Iowa law mandates? It's got to be I-280 within the allowable proximity of the Black Hawk River.

Since when would the Davenport City Council hold anyone or business to a contract?
Let them move to I-80 - open up the river front and enjoy the eagles in the winter and the boat traffic in the summer.
Silver Creek is navagible? That's a stretch.
Unless the state changed the law again, I don't see how they could go to I-80.
That's what the special meeting is about today. Iowa made changes in the state law. Iowa Code 99F.7(1).

Out of Davenport all together - that is where the boat needs to go along with the money it gives to the community. The RDA ia a racket and actually harms us rether then helps us in many ways. With the help Maryellen and the RDA enmeshed board, they have helped create Davenport's poverty corridor. One corridor Tara Barney didn't see coming. Millions in dollars to create andmaintain more and more low income housing, millions to JLCS to support and promote poverty here in Davenport, millions to the Housing council to again pay for more low income housing (all tax free placeds) by the way. If they build low income housing - they will come. And boy - have they come. Great job RDA. Poverty abounds thanks to the Riverboat. When will the idiots in charge get it?????
Unless it has been further modified, here is the key part of Iowa Code 99F.7(1):
"...The commission shall decide the number, location, and type of excursion gambling boats licensed under this chapter for operation on the rivers, lakes, and reservoirs of this state. An excursion gambling boat may be located or operated on a natural or man-made lake or reservoir if the lake or reservoir is of sufficient size to accommodate recreational activity. An excursion gambling boat may also be located on a man-made basin or other body of water adjacent to a river, provided it is located no more than one thousand feet from the high water mark of the river, as established by the commission in consultation with the United States army corps of engineers, the department of natural resources, or other appropriate regulatory agency..."
So, does anyone know where a line 1000 feet from the "high water level" of the Mississippi River would run?
From what I was told tonight, it looks like it has been further changed. Has anyone been to Riverside? Supposedly its nowhere near a river. At that point I don't see why we bother forcing them to have a styrofoam basement with water under it, or whatever.
I haven't been to Riverside, but my parents have. They claim it's not near any water. They say it looks like it's in what used to a cornfield.
Riverside Casino is near the Iowa River on Route 22 just east of Route 218.
Judging by this google satellite view, its somewhat close to a river or creek (its not labeled) by probably over 1500 feet.
