I agree. The RME is the same way. Not enough ads for the great badns that play there. There have been some really awesome musicians there, but you would never know.
Tara - where are you????
The Rock Camp kids that played at the RME in the afternoon were awesome! Some even original music and very confident kids. They were elementary and junior high kids. All the seats were filled, but I agree-if I hadn't gotten an email from an artist who has a space at Bucktown and knew that the St. Pat's Society was at the Market in the Skybridge, I wouldn't have known. It's too bad there weren't more families-most things were free. It was a very nice event all in all.
Sorry to hear you havent been hearing about all the great stuff down at the RME. They do get the word out, but not via the TV and Radio outlets.
The best way to solve the problem is to subscribe to the RME newletter. Go to www.rivermusicexperience.org
follow the links.....
Yeah, there was even no follow-up communication with the participating businesses. They were contacted in October with the idea and to sign up but were never told when the event date was. The participants were unaware of when the full page ad was going to come out in the QC Times. My friend missed it in the newspaper and only became aware when the strange little coupons were presented by customers. He had only two coupons presented by 2 o'clock Saturday.
Not a very professional job of coordination of the event with the businesses participating.
I recently spoke to an employee of the RME who told me that they do a poor job at getting the word out.
I stopped into the Redstone Room to see how many people were watching the new Grinch movie, and there were less than 5 there.
Now, that may be a reflection on the movie, but still...
I get the Redstone newsletter and I don't remember reading about this event.
Getting the word out doesn't mean just putting information in some obscure newsletter that only a select few even KNOW about. I know advertising is expensive, but can't these downtown things be advertised as one large event and everyone involved pitch in for some air time or print in the QCT? I'd love to support these events downtown, but can't if I don't know about them.
There was an ad in the QCTimes, although I am not sure when.
They were handing them out down there.
