Open Thread -Back from Sioux Falls

Since I just got back into town from a trip to our neighbor to the West, South Dakota, I'm just sticking up an open thread for now.

This wasn't my first trip to Sioux Falls, but I definitely have to recommend it to anyone in that area. Falls Park is a good example of what Davenport and Rock Island's riverfronts could be someday. While we don't have falls, we could make some natural-looking rock fountains somewhere, and we do have a little thing called the Mississippi to look at. From what I've heard, the area near the falls in Sioux City had a pretty bad reputation 20 or 30 years ago, so its also a good example of how a city can turn around a blighted area with a plan and some money.

QCI - you missed a big night for downtown on Saturday. There were 5,310 at the Bandits game that night. Penguin's seemed to be packed at the Freight House, and there was also the B.B. King concert at the Adler. I didn't see a write up on it to know how that went. There were also 4,100 at the Bandits game on Friday night, too. Attendance seems to be doing much better than last year.

my wife and i hit up the farmer's market saturday at about 9:30am. holy crap was it packed. i'm no expert at estimating crowd numbers, but i'd guess there may have easily been over 500 people there by the time we showed up. the lot at modern woodman park was so full by that time that we had to park at the last spot on one of the rows. people were even parking in the ice arena building's lot.

If the weather was anything like it was out west, I can see why. After dodging tornado warnings on the way over Thursday, the weather was as perfect as it gets in the Midwest for the rest of my trip.

Downtown this past weekend was indeed packed with people for all of the already mentioned reasons. I'm bummed I missed BB King, I had a damn wedding! It's good to see too that despite a certain someone's best efforts, the public didn't buy the B.S. about the downtown Farmers Market deal, and it's not only alive, but thriving this year.
