Bye Bye Swing

Unless the Swing of the Quad Cities pull of a miracle and win both games in Beloit, John O'Donnell has seen its last Swing game. Vote for the new name at SwingBaseball.com, by the way. It appears the poll is being hacked, so we'll see what happens. Somehow I doubt that the "Quad City Talons" would be winning by such a huge margin. I doubt the Napoleon Dynamite vote is that big.

The game included half-off admission for Davenport residents, so I had hoped to see a packed house. Whether it was the weeknight game, the impending storm, or a lack of publicity, they had less than 1500 fans in attendance. Here I had been hoping that a big crowd would send a message to the new owners that cheaper tickets equal bigger crowds, more excitement, and more income in the long run. Oh well. It was nice to sit in the 3rd row Club Seats for only $6 each. It was also nice to sit in the Mediacom Sports Lounge and watch the Dodgers game while the tarp was being unrolled and rerolled.

Here's hoping the Swing win the next 2 games (after losing 8 in a row) and we can all pack JOD Saturday night for the next home playoff game.

I am moving to the QC in a couple weeks and one of the things I am looking forward to most is being able to regularly see hockey and baseball games. It is always tough to get people out to these things.

We had a summer league team in the CICL for a few yeasr down here in Galesburg. It folded due to lack of support. Having attended about 50 games in their 3 seasons, I was always sad to see the lack of crowds. After their season last summer, the teams future was in doubt. I with a small group of poeple attempted to save the team, but were not able to get enough sponsorship dollars raised.

I heard that Clayton Lloyd will be selling hot dogs part time to supplement his retirement income. The problem is that he may forget what people ordered on their hotdogs.

You Clayton-slanderers are really trying my patience. It makes me wish I had the ability to ban commenters.

Oh QCI, take a chill pill. That was obviously done in the spirit of fun.

I agree with QCI here, has there been any PUBLIC information about Clayton's ALLEGED condition?
What would happen if there was major discussion (if it hasn't happened already) in the local blogland that Ald. Meyer is bipolar and manic? How much crap would hit the fan?

Playoff games are always kind of tough to sell. They didn't know they were making the playoffs until like Monday, right? Basically the whole attendance was walk-up tickets over two days. The Mallards have had the same problem. Regular season games have the advantage of months of advance notice, promotions, and more group sales.

The poster at 8:34 pm is right. If Clayton has a medical condition, it is not something we should be making fun of. The man should be allowed to retire in peace. How would you feel if a member of your family had dementia and it was discussed on blog land?

Those allegations are beyond ridiculous.

Clayton Lloyd is almost always the most well-spoken, reasonable and intelligent person in the room - ESPECIALLY if he's in city hall.

If he is suffering from dementia, what ailment is afflicting the rest of the idiots down there?

The Mallards made the playoffs every year.
