Here are a few images from today's Bill and Hillary Clinton rally in downtown Davenport. It was great to see an urban location chosen for something like this, instead of just something with corn of a fairgrounds in the background. We need to show people there's more to Iowa than what they stereotypically think. Just to preempt any political debate that we don't really need, just remember I'm registered Independent and attended this as an important downtown event only.
Hillary and Bill, working the crowds. Check out the rest of my images from this afternoon on my flickr page here.

Was it really necessary to display a row of starw bales so prominently? Must we remind the country what a bunch of rubes we are here in Iowa? I suppose they couldn't figure out a way to get corn to stand up on the stage.
That's the same thing I thought of when I saw the photo on the Times web site.
Wow, no kidding, I thought the same thing. I believe the last few dignitaries visiting had the same stage setup.
Did anyone else notice that it was hard to hear anything on 2nd Street? I saw many people leaving during Hillary's speech-I couldn't understand what was being said. Then again maybe I'm getting old and the rock and roll is catching up with my ears.
Hmmm, holding a rally right outside the headquarters of one of the larger newspaper publishers in the country, how odd. Guess the river center was just not sexy enough for this campaign stop. Or maybe it has to do with the management throwing out a longtime union agreement to save money.
What are you talking about. There is the RME, the bank, Subway, D1 and Quiznos. Newspaper?

The Mississippi Plaza office building across from the Figge is the headquarters of the company that publishes the QCTimes, and is one of the largest newspaper publishers.
I think they just chose it because its pretty much the heart of downtown, and doesn't disrupt traffic that much to close. The paper said they didn't even know at first that its where JFK and RFK spoke.
