Where in the QC is this? #15
Update: This hasn't been the smoothest Where in the QC is this? week. MRC may have guessed correctly that this is from the old Rock Island High School, but I don't actually know. I was just driving by and thought "that would be a good mystery image." I don't know the history of this building, but I do know its located just west of downtown Rock Island behind the courthouse/jail complex. Can someone confirm what this building is? Here's an overview image. I'll try to actually know what I'm taking a picture of next time.Clue #1: I know I'm normally lazy with these, but this time the image is actually from a non-Davenport Quad City.

Is it the top of the house across the street from Central High?
Nope. That one's in slightly better condition.
Is this house on Grand?
Taylor School?
Nope and Nope.
The house is located on Northwest BLVD I think. It is on a nice little patch of land. They used to put up a big "Dan Vance" sign whenever he would run for any of the sundry offices he has run for. I could be wrong about the street though, but I know the house.
I'm going to have to check out this location that you're talking about 11:35, but its not what I took the picture of.
I'm going to add this to the post, but clue #1 is that its not in Davenport.
I'll try to swing over thatta way in a few days and get you a better idea of the location.
my first thought is that it's the old rock island high school building in downtown RI -- i think it used to be called Rocky West? it's in a state of picturesque dilapidation not unlike what you've shown here, i think -- unless they tore it down years ago and i somehow missed it...
The Augustana camous house by Jenny Lind dorm
Well... uh, the thing is, I don't know what this place is "called." I just know where it is. Some of you last guessers are close, at least.
qci, that's not the building i was thinking of -- just got lucky that it was in the same area. looks like a typical house -- there's a pretty good pic of it in windows live local, in which it looks like there used to be white siding over the whole building -- i think!
(the building i thought it was (i'm not sure any more, but think it used to be used as part of the high school) is here.)
I think it is the old Nicholson's Funeral Home. On the corner of 11 St & 3 Ave?
Private residence before that. R.I County Historical Society can most likely
It's the Mitchell House, as seen on the cover of this brochure and described inside (#27). http://www.rigov.org/pdf/CED/brochures/ChicagoAdditionBrochure.pdf
Thanks for all the info, folks. I guess we'll call this one a draw.
QCI,
that is the Mitchell home, and you might be interested to know that ancestors still live in the QCA, and were close friends of the people that owned the macaroni and cookie factory in which you live. Small world.
