A few DSM images

Our gaudy state capitol, where I'm sure our state representatives are busy doing things... or more likely on summer vacation.Downtown Des Moines has an exceedingly extensive skywalk system, and it includes quite a bit of retail and dining options. The only problem is that they were nearly all closed at 3pm on Friday. Maybe because they have hours like we see in the last image here. This place makes the downtown Davenport Subway look good for staying open until 6pm...

The reason why things like the Malin fiasco happen when you're out of town is because you are the glue that holds things together.

Yes - people behave because you are around. When you leave, they are naughty.

Even though I do not get out and see the world as you do, at least I know the legislature is not in session.

Des Moines skywalks actually go someplace; unlike Davenport's Bridge to Nowhere.

it also helps to have a large downtown workforce. They push alot of paper in DSM.

Anyone that's read this blog for a while knows I have little interest in following state politics, but I did say that they were probably on vacation, ie, recess.

DM is a functional city, it is what it is. It doesn't spend all its energy being something it is not - I.E. Davenport.

QCI, we are all well aware of your interest in those things only between the river and 6th Street.

Hey, even I appreciate a good insult that actually has some thought behind it.

I'd rather be accused of focusing on downtown than the many, many other names I've been called on here.

I actually do feel bad sometimes for concentrating too much on Davenport, but I rarely find myself getting that excited about IL news, and the IL newspaper has a terrible online edition. Because of those things, I'm practically becoming DavenportImages...

At least give at county board meeting a try, you might see an example of something functional.
