Alderman Brown emailed me to pass along a link to his new blog, which is located at davenportfirstward.blogspot.com. Weird how the previous Alderman never needed that, eh? Anyway, this makes at least 3 of the 11 city elected officials who have blogs. More ways to get in touch and be gotten in touch with can't be a bad thing. I've added a link over with the others.
Nathan also announced that his first First Ward meeting will be Saturday Jan. 12th, at 10:00 am in the Roosevelt Community Center. Apparently there will also be a presentation on various programs available at the public libraries. The 1st Ward definitely looks like its off to a good start.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make the meeting/open house last night, so any of you who were there, feel free to post your review of the evening.

I wasn't able to be there last night, but I am really excited about the possibilities for Davenport.
I hope for a time for healing and stragic, long term planning for the new year.
We have some intelligent aldermen who could be good at long term planning. The problem we have had in the past, is alderman couldn't look past 2 years.
Most important things take more than 2 years to make a difference. We need to quit thinking short term and expect results immediately.
I attended the council meeting last night, and found it very, very possitive. It seems (at least for now) that all the new & old members were all smiles, meeting & greeting volks, and just a possitve experience for myself, and guest that I took with me. It was the 1st experience even being in City Hall, or chambers. Let's hope Gluba can keep the ball rolling, and keep the City looking toward the future. I am convinced the voters FINALLY got it right with who they elected. There is some talent sitting up there running our city government.... FINALLY.
Gee, I wish MY alderman of the 4th ward would have a blog....or a web site....or an e-mail account that he knew how to use :^(

I disagree. I heard after the fact that this council cut public input under the direction of Bill Gluba. All but two went along with this vote. We the people are in big trouble. They almost cut public comment completely. What passed is the same plan that failed under Charlie Brooke. It failed because of public outcry. In fact, this vote was not made known to the public. WOW. These folks ran on leadership and open government and now we see Gluba leading them to closed government with a bunch of followers like Boom, Mattson, Meeker and Brown.
It is hopeless people. Time to move.

Public input was never being cut. It was moved toward the end of the meeting instead of the beginning. These changes were made in order to reduce redundancies, increase staff efficiency, and make all the meetings more accessible for the average person working 8-5. If you would like to discuss further, please come to my Ward meeting this Saturday where I'm sure it will be discussed or feel free to call.

Brown, Boom, Meeker, Gluba, Matson, You guys stay in the saddle, and let the the "againsters" wither on the vine of negativity. You guys have more support to do what is right than ANY council in the recent memory. You guys keep a stiff upper lip, and you will be remembered for coming to the fold when we needed you most.
