Iowa designates Davenport a 'great place' -QCTimes
The early version of this article garnered the usual QCTimes commenter reaction: negativity. They felt it was a joke that Davenport is considered a great place. I think they couldn't be more wrong.
I rarely go a day without telling someone what a great place Davenport is, and how much greater we're striving to become. Let's congratulate ourselves for once.

We were visiting with friends in another state. The discussion turned to the upcoming (then) Elton John concert. They said they had seen the concert but had to travel 200 miles to the nearest venue. When we mentioned the concert was in our hometown area, their response was "I thought the Quad Cities was not that large to have a facility that could accommodate a show like that". When we talked about all of the entertainment and amenities we had, they were surprised and thought the Quad Cities must be a much larger population area than we really are.
Not many places of our size can offer so much.
QCI,
do you have any info about what the skybridge expansion mentioned in the times article would entail? is is just the construction of the skybridge plaza or is it an extension of the skybridge like the one that was brought up in the leclaire park planning sessions?
QCI,
why dont you add a "area projects" section like absolute dsm?
2:05, I was wondering that myself. I was at many of the LeClaire Park expansion meetings, and I have no idea what they're talking about. I'll try and find out Monday.
I don't know why there are people with such negative opinions of our area. If I felt that way I would move.
They all claim they're going to move away every time some piece of news comes out that they don't like.
Yet somehow Davenport's population is going up...
QCI
You may be right.
Going UP above Locust.
Have you gone through the census data to know that SoLo isn't gaining population? I know that downtown is.
There is no expansion planned for the Skybridge. I think the article meant to say LeClaire Park.
anon 4:50,
you are wrong,
look at the great places application. Anyway, the question is what "expansion" means.
It means the completion of the park surrounding the south foot of the bridge if the casino is no longer there.
Congrats to Davenport, and thanks to D1 for all the hard work you did to make this happen? I know you get critized unfairly by the againsters in this city. We wouldn't be the ever changing city we are now, if it weren't for D1. Hammerlink, Ambrose, Meyer and Lynn should be ashamed of their short-sited attitudes.
