Winter Open Thread

This is my 2nd annual reminder that winter won't last forever. Nothing makes us appreciate Iowa summers like an Iowa winter. The image is the Vander Veer lagoon of course, from April of 2003.

Thanks for the pic QCI! I opened it up a couple of times while at work today and it perked me up with anticipation at the warm weather ahead. Great photo!

Just what we needed!

City staff is secretly plotting to have 'public comment' deleted from being shown on the city cable channel. Supposidly people will still be able to speak, but it will not appear on the air. I think that most people watch council meetings for two things: to hear what other citizens have to say, and to hear the well thought out questions that Keith Meyer asks to get to the bottom of everything that goes on under the table in this city. If the reason for this change is the deal with the Qcrapers slandering Mike Loos, then it should be them that is banned from the tv broadcast, and let people who actually live in this city speak what they have on thier minds.

On another QC Blog, commenters are suggesting that Keith Meyer run for Alderman at Large in the next election. Right now, Keith is doing an excellent job for both the City as a whole, and for the third ward. Keith draws no ward lines, and not only looks out for everyone in his ward, but is more than willing to get things done in every ward. So the question is, what could be any better or different if Keith would become an Alderman at Large, and the answer is nothing. He wouldn't get a payraise, or anymore status, or do his job any differently than he does now. For Keith to run as an at large candidate, he runs the risk that Mary Ellen and the IOC would pump money into his opponents just to keep him out of that seat. Then there's the Qcrapers who would auto-dial against him for cracking down on trash and eyesores in this city. Then there is the snobs of the 6th ward who think that they need an alderman, and 2 at larges that live in their ward. Everyone that lives in the 3rd ward wants and needs Keith as their alderman, so lets not chance loosing him, just for a change in title.

"Keith is the first mainstream Davenportian who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy, that’s a storybook, man.”

Not everyone in the 3rd ward wants him.

He won by 9 votes.

That vote was over a year ago QCI. In the past year Keith has done such a wonderful job each cycle, that he will surely win by landslide. 3rd ward residents hate to waste money downtown, and Keith is watching every penny. We thank him for his vidulance.

Yes... vidulance...

I do not predict a landslide. Many people who live downtown, especially in the new developments, actually WANT development downtown. He's pretty much the icon for opposing any public assistance for downtown development.

I'd love to see Karen Anderson run for Alderman. Whenever she comes to council meetings, she speaks with intelligence and authority. We need people like that planning for Davenport's future.

Alderman Meyer - while choosing a new drinking fountain for Marquette Park, may i suggest that you look at the one that was installed on the Duck Creek Bike Path at Hillandale Road. The thing is well made, plus it has a DOGGIE DISH to give water to your pets that is located on the ground. It is really well designed. Dogs get thirsty on long walks, and it was a great idea. Thank You.
