Christmas is Over Open Thread

I'll be busy preparing for my trip these next few days, but I've got a few posts planned. What else is on people's minds?

Have you seen the new "speed camera" setup at Kimberly & Brady?
How ugly!! Huge poles with large spot lights. Really makes the city look beautiful and inviting....NOT!
Thank you Ray Ambrose for ugly upping the city just to make a few bucks.

I am trying to figure out if some people are arrogant or just plain stupid.

The local manager of of the Davenport Citibus is required by contract to reside in Davenport. So what does he do, he rents and then purchases a home in Bettendorf, claiming he didn't know that he was required to reside in Davenport.

If he is too dumb to read a simple paragraph (or sentence) in a contract then I would think he is too dumb to run the bus system.

As this is an obviouis breach of contract the city should terminate the contact and hire another firm with employees that are at least able to read.

I pretty much agree on that one.

Just a little clarification on the first comment. These are not speed cameras they are additional red light cameras. A new company has taken over the red light camera program and is installing upgraded equipment.
The speed camera locations have not been finalized yet. So go ahead and drive fast and kill people while you still have time.

Thanks for the update. Didn't know a new company was taking over the red light cameras. Do you know why?
Anyway, speed camera....red light camera, thank you Ray Ambrose. The ONE time you open your mouth and come up with an idea, and this is what we get!

Now the city is going to balance the ugliness of the cameras with spending over a half million on improving two gateways to the city. If a picture is worth $60 thats a lot of snaps to feel good as you start down Welcome Way or come off the Centennial bridge.

Speed camera or red light camera sure says welcome to Davenport to me. Speeders are a small portion of the overall picture, what about people on cell phones, putting on make-up, drinking coffee and eating burgers?
Are these new gateways going to arrows to show which way to turn for hookers and skid row?

We here in Davenport would never want to 'bust' or eliminate the prositutes and vagrants from the city. How would JLCS Execs make any money? Not to mention the do gooders who live in Bettendorf and elsewhere in Davenport. What 'cause' would they have then? It's their ticket to heaven... as long as it isn't in their backyard. Poor people are big business here in Davenport.Millions and millions of dollars are created by vagrants, not to mention slums. Now slums, they are big business too.

$300,000,000 investment in Davenport is a bad thing? I'd like Ray "Big Dog" Ambrose to explain that one.
