2009 Festival of Trees Parade Images

Yesterday was another beautiful day for the annual Festival of Trees Parade. We went in to the actual Festival of Trees as well, which I hadn't done in quite a while. It was kind of surreal looking at Christmas trees and decorations while a dance troupe was performing to Britney and Janet Jackson pop songs, but it was still a fun time. The only negative thing was that the MidAmerican garage parking system was not working correctly at all. When I went in to park the gates were up, so I figured it was either "$2 event parking" as you leave, or free parking. When we left the parking attendant asked what time we came in, and charged accordingly. Pretty strange, and pretty unfair to those who figured gates up meant free parking as it usually does. Oh well, one problem certainly doesn't ruin a great day and a great event. It seemed like an even larger turnout than usual.

Here's the pictures:

Wow! Look at all those hookers and drug dealers!

QCI, if you get the chance, be a balloon handler. I got the chance several years ago when I was temping at my current job. It is a fun time.

I had a good time toting a balloon. QCI, if you are interested next year, I'll set you up.

Walnut.

I would like to try it sometime. The handlers generally look like they're having a pretty good time.

I always get a kick out of the added drama each time the handlers have to weave in and out of the stop lights and bridges. The kids momentarily panic and then cheer as soon as the balloons clear :)

OK, off-topic, but did anyone else notice how un-controversial the Centennial Park project became now that the election is over?

Its been in the plans, and in the budget, for years. When they were talking about Promise, this was some of the stuff they were going to cut to pay for it. We didn't pass Promise, so its only logical that Centennial Park would proceed. Edmonds can complain all he wants.

Well put, QCI.

You have to wonder about a society that blows up a bunch of ballons and marches them down the street. Where in history have we seen this kind of nonsense before. Handlers get a grip.

I take that the Nazis did it? Give me a break.

You don't like it? Good for you, don't do it.
