QC in 20 Years

Lets hope not.

The only previous time I had been to Las Vegas was probably 11 years ago or so (when I was around 13, for those trying to figure that out,) and I remember it being a lot cooler back then. Not being able to walk 2o feet without being mobbed by guys trying to hand me advertisements for various hotels, strippers, credit cards, hookers, shows, etc certainly made me wish for the plain horrible music-playing and smoke-filled Rhythm City Casino. Its definitely amazing how much money runs through Vegas, but its also pretty clear that it comes with a high cost. I wouldn't mind having a couple of their high-rise condo buildings in downtown Davenport though.

Posts hopefully coming up over the next week, mostly after I get back to Davenport:

-Why the QC area needs an arcade/entertainment venue similar to Gameworks or Dave and Busters.
-My belated 2007 wishes for Davenport.
-Probably something about speed cameras

2 things for Keith Meyers: could you get a street sweeper to clean 3rd street from Division to the downtown please. Then that house on Marquette, approximately at 6th street that the church owns, it still looks like a mess. They did do some work after you got on them the last time, but now the equipment has been removed, and progress stopped.

If this blog is the way to communicate with your alderman then something needs to change.

Right On! Especially with all that is going on, your only concern is getting the streets cleaned.

Get real!

10:03 seems testy; her panties must be riding up something fierce. 10:30 needs to wipe the grape kool-aid mustache off.

The perfect case for blogs only with writer identification.

I see not much has changed in the new year.

At least 8:42 was saying something constructive.

Isn't there any real discussion or debate out there?

I actually woke up this morning thinking about the four inches of mud that has been "tracked in" from the "parking lot" where Scott county tore down houses, unto Fifth Street. More caked mud than I have ever seen on a City street that did not suffer flooding.

From there the mud makes its way to other City streets and drains.

Seems to me, because of the location, one of the County Officials would have noticed the problem.

My wish for '07. That the city listens to what Cingular said about the old ATT building and does those type of upgrades to the downtown. That way we can attract the next 500 job company that comes along. I realize there is only so much that can be done. But, a couple of those $100K studies could go along way to buying/tearing down old buildings and having those parking spaces needed.

Keith, with the nice weather the past couple days, the bangers with the red shirts and red hats are hanging at 14th and Gaines again. It might not hurt to have the Mobile Precinct stationed there again and nip it in the bud.

Well I kind of enjoy my panties riding up, but that is another blog. And Avril as far as the clown and loser label, how is "anonymous" any different than calling oneself "Quad City Images", both facelessly pushing agendas.

When will the city actually get the 14th adn Gaines area cleaned up? Seriously? I know of many many many many occasions where the city was engaged only to not follow through. It islike Bladel wants the area full of drug houses.

Anonymous said...

14th and Gaines, please. The safety of our citizens while driving Brady, Kimberly, and Elmore has priority over drug traffic. It was better when that cop who gave the guns back was in charge of the Vice Unit, at least there was some action.

Regarding Gaines
Thanks Ald. Meyer,

I’ll forward to Patrol for extra patrols this week and discuss this in staff Monday.

Gaines is well travelled by County and State employees going to and from work. It is used by Judges and employees a like. 14th and 15th are main one ways in this town and are generally safe except for this area on 14th (and Gaines). It is important - drug traffic. It is because we are all effected by it - Central HS, JB, Jefferson are all in the area, Ambrose, the city hall, Palmer, etc etc. I am offended as a resident here that these issues are just blown off by our community and the officials who can do something about it. I do my part by paying taxes, keeping my property nice and reporting the problems when they arise. We really can get the dealers out of the town and the slum properties cleaned up. If we made it a priority. Every year there is a goal set by council to clean up the central city and every year it goes by the wayside. This community really does not want the decent homeowners SOLO to move - trust me - they don't. It would be better if we all got together and made a solid commitment to clean this place up and evict the criminals. You as NOloers and people who don't really care, willnot be asked to do much. Just not stand in the way of getting rid of drig dealers and leaches and slumlords.

Alderman Meyer, On Kimberly road, east of Eastern Ave and west of Jersey Ridge, someone lost, and then left, a mattress in the center median. If someone reports that to public works, they always want the state to deal with it. That means it could lay there until next Christmas rolls around. (sorta like the centenial problem) Couldn't one of Davenport's many pickup trucks stop by and pick it up on Monday without too much problem. I think that is where normal bulk pick up is anyway, and surely one of the supervisors who all drive gas guzzling pickups could take care of this.

Regarding the 5th Street tear-down houses, I'm sure you remember Keith when the County board members came before council with a wonderful layout/sketch of the proposed parking lot. It was supposed to be completly paved, with superior lighting, and landscaping supplied by a professional landscaping company so it fit into the neighborhood and looked like a small park. So many come before council and make promises, but City Hall never holds them accountable for what they claim they will do. This happens time after time, and we appreciate you Keith for trying to get so many things in writting. These cleanup problems cost the taxpayers not only for the labor, but each piece of equipment used is very expensive per hour. Some equipment cost is more expensive than the cost of the person running/driving the machine. Dee must consider this job security for herself and her 'good ol boys club' at public works.

Thanks to Alderman Meyer and Hammerlink for getting the past two weeks as free trash pickup weeks. Many of the people picked up thier alleys and got rid of the accumulation. This could be the answer to our current garbage problem. Would it be possible Keith, for one free week per month, and then people wouldn't have to illegally dump in my alley? The plan would have to be simple, such as, the first Full Week of the month. Doing this might save the cost of one more inspector, and one more cleanup crew, and the cost of running a cleanup truck.

Keith,
I saw the mattress and have asked fo it to be picked up. Your comments leave me to believe
that you called or emailed someone on this and they said it was a State problem. Is thaat
correct? While there are issues on the Highway that should be repaired or fixed by the
State this is not one of them. i neeed to straighten out the communication if you did
indeed get that response.

Dee - while you are in the cleaning up mood, most of South of Locust has garbage loose all over it. It is mainly in the areas of hogh rental concentration (most of the area). Can you send your crews through please to get this cleaned up or send letters to the landlords to get the slum tenants to clean it up.

Date: January 7, 2007 (10:55)

Reference: SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

For Release: Immediate

Sunday, January 07, 2007 02:45 am 600-900 Pershing Avenue

Officers were dispatched to the area of 900 Pershing Avenue after 911 calls reported a disturbance involving many people and shots being fired.

Very shortly thereafter additional calls to the 911 center reported a multi- vehicle crash in the 600 block of Pershing.

Responding officers found that a southbound vehicle on Pershing Avenue had struck a street sign on the west boulevard in the 700 block. The car continued southbound to the 600 block where it ran over a tree, and then the left side of the car sideswiped the right sides of two parked vehicles. The vehicle then partially re-entered the roadway and the front end struck the rear of another parked vehicle; that vehicle was pushed forward and caused a chain-reaction collision with two additional parked vehicles.
The driver of the car was being removed by people at the scene and they told officers that the driver, Terrell D. Lillybridge, 25, of Davenport, had been shot. Lillybridge was treated at the scene by Fire & Medic EMS personnel and transported to Genesis East Medical Center. He under going treatment for a life-threatening wound to his mid-torso and is considered to be in critical condition at this time.

You were right Keith when you questioned Family Resources about only paying a buck a square foot for utilities. Just because Carol Schaffer says it would cost $100,000.00 to get new utility meters installed, the city should get their own estimate, preferably from someplace like HomeTown Plumbing. They do great work and charge less because they are a non-union shop. Let Family Resources pay for the meters and pay their own utility bills. It's time we start saying NO to all these non profits that have their hand out to the taxpayers constantly.

[Prediction] Watch for Bladel to come out in the next few days with an announcement that a speed camera will be installed in the 900 block of Pershing. That will surely take care of the safety in that neighborhood. Guaranteed no more lead flying.

It better be an iron-clad contract with whomever rents the Freighthouse. Jamie Howard and Suzie Bell will try to drive out who ever takes over. Look what those two did to the nice young men who tried to succeed with Bannana Joes and QC Live. Those two women made life misserable for them, even though they tried to accomodate Jamie with all the demands she made. That was a sad deal. That was right in the entertainment district, yet got no support from council or D1.

Check out Lillybridge on iowa courts online - appears he is a banger. Maybe if he wasn't a banger he wouldn't get shot. I sure wich the Davenport Police and our city fathers wouldn't make it so damn comfortable to live and reside in Davenport. Maybe if we actually did not provide comfortable housing, a lot of free stuff and if we held people accountable for what they do or don't do, we would have no bangers and no shootings and no slumlandlords who rent to bangers like Mr. Lillybridge. Just a thought.
\
Is the criminal bangers community going have another 'peace march' through the slum neighborhoods of Davenport? Enough is enough. Get tough folks and get these idiots out of here.

So Keith
When are you going to get your own blog so all these comments/complaints go directly to you?

Anonymous said...

To 8:35: Does it really matter where they appear? If Alderman Meyer had his own blog, you would be at that sight reading the complaints. We will keep it simple and easy for you by just posting the problems/complaints right here.

Anonymous said...

We need to findout what slumrental this crowd was gathered inf ront of and get these criminals evicted. The city should be on this right now. We have nuisance abatement laws that call fro the immediate eviction of tenants who are a threat to safety. I would say that shots fired at or in front of a rental is a threat. Watch - the city will do nothing here when they have the tools to help the decent people who live around the place.

If anyone living there reads this blog - PLEASE when you go tot city hall, demand that they city look into what property is hosting this behavior and if it is a rental, ask that the the legal departmetn initiate nuisance abatement proceedings immediately. ZERO TOLERANCE must be implimented if we ar to have a safe city.

Dear 8:35: It is a good thing that people communicate with Keith on this blog, or poor QCI wouldn't get anyone to participate on his blog, and QCI would be chatting with himself.

8:35 has been negative towards Keith Meyer since he was re-elected. Possibly it was someone who lost against him in the race and is still a little spiteful. She doesn't realize that Keith gives us 200%, seven days a week. There is not one other setting alderman that shows that kind of dedication. If anyone in this city needs something done, Keith is your man. It doesn't take him a month to get action either, as he has a good working relationship with with everyone. That gets him quick action.

To 2:31, "he has a good working relationship with with everyone." What?!?!?!? It's the reverse!
