Phil Yerington writes the worst letter to the editor of all time

Its almost like reading The Onion... but here it is:

Davenport vs. Bettendorf: Who's the snob? -QCTimes

Apparently this guy that thought he should be the Mayor of Davenport also thinks its the worst place in the world, and is in love with Bettendorf. Its really pretty hard to find a sentence in his letter that doesn't have some piece of false information or silliness in it.

-Bettendorf's 2 year old convention center is nicer than davenport's 20+ year old one? No way!
-The Isle of Capri in Yerington's world is a 5 star hotel? Apparently he hasn't stayed in many hotels.
-He rags on each piece of River Renaissance, which he spearheaded! Has he had a lobotomy? -The skybridge was in the original proposal for River Renaissance, but to him its silly now.

Does this guy know that there's this thing called Google, where we can look up his past actions and statements if we've somehow forgotten them all as he has?

With this letter he's actually making the "water fluoridation conspiracy" guy look like a better candidate for Mayor.

The amount of B.S. in that letter is so think you'd need a dump-truck to haul it off the pages of the Times.

We're nearly to summer 2010, and this guy is still spouting bald-faced lies and attempting to win an election that ended a LONG time ago. Get over it, Phil. Move on.

Think Thick? Guess not.

They should name the Davenport dog park after QCI. We can call it QCI's Shitliss. Has anyone ever seen a dog there?

I've seen a couple there, but not many.

As we all know, its only 3/4 of a dog park.

See Images buddy Steve Ahrens is nine months behind in collection the Freight House rent. boo.

Where is this dog park?

Its at the site of the old inline skating rink at Marquette south of River Drive. Its officially a "Dog Off Leash Area" which apparently means a dog park that isn't fenced in. The city spent some money and built a berm and fenced it on 3 sides, but they acted like there was some legal reason they'd prefer not to call it a dog park. Who knows. Its one city decision I most certainly disagree with.

I think Yerington is right! Downtown Davenport is a ghost town, and he is also on record as saying he made a mistake when he voted for River Rennassance. QCI apparently doesen't have the courage Mr. Yerington has, which is the courage to admit to a mistake. The aisle of capri is a very nice hotel, and the best QCI can do is nitpick over whether its really a five star hotel or not. Who cares? The issue is QCI's baby, the 8 million dollar bridge to nowhere, which he continues to maintain is a smashing success...Yeah, I see new tourists coming from miles, just to view it...

Wow.. Phil is following the Pat Gibbs path to no where...

By the way, I was just down at the dog park this weekend and they have now fenced the fourth side in. It is fully enclosed now except for a gate at the entrance, which it looks like they are still working on.

That's great news. We'll have to check it out.

It wasn't a mistake, and downtown isn't a "ghost town." Thousands of people live and work there, and there are thousands more that visit regularly. These are indisputable facts. Hanging on to the incredibly dated notion that there's nothing downtown just proves that you aren't ever present to witness it for yourself.

And the people dumping on the city don't have anything to offer but dump on it and anyone who defends it. God forbid that they meet with other like minded people and try to get a new council instead of the same one we have for years.

That dog park is one big doggie litter box .What is the City of Davenport thinking? Guess they are not.A bunch of people who know nothing or care nothing about dogs.

Anonymous said...

Are you suggesting that it's the city's responsibility for picking up people's dog crap, and not the dog owners?

Wow.

I mean, I can find plenty of things to criticize the city for, but blaming it for the irresponsibility of pet owners is pretty weak.

The againsters like to talk about being self reliant, but they expect government to take care of them as much as the progressives.

Downtown Davenport is less of a dump than it was 20 years ago. That said, it is still more dumpy than not. If they would focus on getting some actual businesses down there instead turning everything into a parking ramp, things might turn around.

Maybe people showing interest in the downtown will attract businesses better than the government. Why do businesses want to go in the 53rd & Elmore area? That is a high rent area compared to the downtown. It is because of that is where people go.

Doesn't help that we have morons stating there are 8000 hookers and drug dealers in the downtown.

People aren't going to show interest in an area that has nothing to offer. A few bars and a museum with a couple banjos isn't going bring out a huge crowd. The only people who go to downtown Davenport are weekday office workers, weekend alcoholics, and people needing to catch a bus. If they get something down there that isn't a lawyers office, a bar, or a bus station then more people might have a reason to show interest.

Figge, RiverCenter, Adler, Auto Rons, Source Bookstore, Davenport Library, River Bandits Baseball, River's Edge, skate park, and Farmers Market. Those are some that I can think of from the top of my head that are not a law office, bar, or bus station.

Hey Image. Are you going to attack Alderman Boom for the suggestion of using volunteers for survelliance cameras?

QuadCityImages said...

I certainly am not, as that one was one of the few suggestions by Alderman Meyer that I didn't think was stupid. I've said that on here before.
