27 Homes not quite on death row

A few years ago I did a post titled "8 houses on death row," with a list of the 8 homes that the city was forced to hire a contractor to demolish.

This year I'm posting the list, which can also be found here on the city website, of 27 homes that aren't quite slated to be demolished yet. The city published this list, with the following statement:
The following properties are being proposed to be demolished as part of a code enforcement effort by the City of Davenport. The goal of this procedure is to make the public aware of buildings that are being considered for demolition by the City of Davenport in an effort to locate interested investors that are willing to rehab the buildings and return them to code compliant condition and as active, tax producing properties.
As anyone who has seen some of the homes sitting vacant around Davenport knows, it takes quite a bit to get on the demo list. Only 3 of the homes are North of Locust, although that's a similar ratio to the 1 in 8 that were NoLo in my 2006 list. The city link also includes additional info, such as who owns each of the properties, where they live, and how long ago they were last inspected.

And here's the list:

1320 W 3rd St
1412 W 3rd St
421 W 6th St
502 E 7th St
912 W 8th St

anyone know what they're doing with the old church building on
E.14th? The one with the weird siding? I'm not sure exactly of the crossroad there.

It's 14th and Pershing. It looks like to me that they are building a new church or adding to the existing one. My money is on a new building. They have a foundation up.

I haven't been by there in the last few days, but I believe they are building 2 Habitat houses next door to that church that has been "under renovation" for the last decade.

I think the church went "bell up" being that they existed on donations from other churches like 1st Baptist and such.

It's time to demolish all the houses on the list, and make another list of several hundred SOL that have been boarded for years, and are just good for termite food.

What happened to the 8 on your list from last year QCI? Are they repaired, or still a blight for the neighbors to look at who own homes on the same block?

The previous list was from 2006, and I'm 95% sure they all were torn down. The list that year was from the bid request sent out to contractors, so they were already done for.

Who was the former boss?

Driving Second Street past Bill Boom's Mary's Bar noticed a Boom for Council sign in the planter on City property. Also noticed Boom has failed to follow city ordinances in painting the plywood covered windows though it was reported over six months ago. Merely pointing this out as Chris and Shelley have made a big deal about Ortiz.

Th former boss was my second one out of college. The job had nothing to do with real estate. Being a landlord was a side deal and a part of this person's retirement. I guess retirement is a little further away now.

Hearing some of the stories about owning rental property, I never did see it worth the effort.

It wasn't necessarily Ortiz's early signs that bugged me (although they did too) as much as him (or someone pretending to be him) saying that they would be taken down and then not following through. But even that isn't all that big of a deal; just a less than stellar first impression.

thanks for the answers, I was curious since they were tearing down that house on 15th right behind it. I wondered if that whole corner were being razed.
