Des Moines Trip Open Thread

Yesterday I headed over to our capital city for a get together with some folks from AbsoluteDSM. We were able to tour 4 mixed use projects in their East Village area. One of them in particular, e300, I'm particularly jealous of, but that's a topic for another post.

Consider this one an open thread. Its amazing how little discussion of the upcoming elections there has been around here. Primary predictions for the 3rd ward? Incumbent? Libertarian tea enthusiast? West end tree enthusiast?

This wouldn't happen at MAC's..

ATLANTIC, Iowa (AP) - A city councilman in Iowa said a man who attacked him at a bar claimed it was retaliation for comments he made about the man's niece, a political opponent.

Kern Miller, a councilman in Atlantic, told KJAN-AM on Saturday that he and 49-year-old Ryan Dean Johnson were talking about football Friday before he was attacked. The councilman suffered a lacerated kidney and is recovering at a Nebraska hospital.

Miller said Johnson told him the attack was for what he said about Johnson's niece, whom Miller defeated in a City Council race two years ago. Miller said he doesn't recall what he may have said.

Johnson is charged with aggravated assault and free on $2,000 bond. A message left at a phone number listed for Johnson wasn't returned Saturday.

CAN'T WE JUST ALL GET ALONG??

Boom is going to lose in the Primary. People know now that he is all talk and no action.

I predict the opposite of that will happen.

I think that here is how it will shake out: Edmonds wins 2nd ward, Boom wins 3rd ward, Lynn wins 5th ward, and Robby Ortiz and Gene Meeker wins At-Large!

Boom wins his primary with relative ease. Will probably face Elliott. Boom beats Elliott to return to council.
Lynn wins the 5th to return to council.
Gene Meeker wins re-election and will be followed by...
Gordon
then Ortiz
Then.........Keith Meyer.
That's how I'm calling it.

I think all council members DESERVE to be re-elected. From Gluba on down. They work well together and have gotten things done for all of Davenport. Most important, they have done it with-out raising our taxes!
BRAVO!
We are no longer the "laughing stock" of the entire state with the Shannanigan's of the clowns of the past.
DOUBLE BRAVO!

I like the dog park they put up at the old hockey rink, but I hope they will finish it. I'm not letting my dog off leash with it fenced in on three sides.

If anything Boom has proved he will work his butt off for the Ward. I think he's done a good job in both decision making AND actively cooperating with his constituents.

He's worked diligently with the Gaines St. group to improve gateways with funding and time in meetings. He contributed towards improvement of the railroad wall and worked on the transportation study. He supported the Blackhawk project, instead of attempting to submarine the deal like a previous 3rd Ward alderman had a history of doing. He’s also attended damn near every ribbon cutting that’s happened in 2 years throughout the ward. He’s behaved like an adult during the actual council meetings and made good decisions. I’m sure he’s goofed up some policy or regrets a vote on something, but his total body of work is solid. Boom has done a fine job, and he deserves to be reelected.

Gordon sold his soul for $1500 to Mitt Romney! You cant run as a fiscal conservative, then turn around behind the scenes sell your self for not 1 but 3 $500.00 payments during 3 different months to a Moderate Democrat. I will not be sold out as a Davenport resident to anyone who can offer more money! He should be ashamed of himself.

A few people posting their unsubstantiated conspiracy theories on a blog that less than a thousand people read isn't going to lose Gordon the election.

That explains things man. For the life of me I couldn't figure out what Booms been doing the past couple years. The inner city going down east and west. Redcoats and Ribbon cuttings. Great.

No choice of a credible candidate in the 2nd Ward. Edmond is an opportunist who campaigned that he was instrumental in getting Hamerlinck elected and would be just like him. If you talk with the Hamerlinck people, they don't know him.

If you gauge Edmond's vote by signs, then less than five are in actual yards. Most are on vacant lots or public right-of-ways.

Meeker is the only clear choice for at-large. No telling what we will get as the second person.

I see why this blog has no credibility. Qci has been paid by D1 in the past and even given a job by permar then fired, given a small office space because they wanted somebody to blog for them. Always gives excuses or changes the subject when it is about their candidates. Same group of people hiding behind anonymous, think they know who is the main stream candidates are. Lets see if QCI admits to these unsubstanciated claims like he says about Gordon. He knows the truth and has had conversations with A certain state senator who ripped him a new one when he tried to talk to him after a election. QCI play it down the middle for now on. And I hope you try to deny these claims about D1.

11:50PM, that's babblygook, what the hell are you attempting to convey?

Anonymous said...

Let's see all this "proof" about QCI. You waste your life following him around that you should have something. Let's see it.

Also, the name calling has been done the last couple of elections and it has given you nothing. Your guy always loses thanks to you. Let's try to state what your candidate can do and leave the name calling out.

11:50, your post sets a new standard for crazy.

Nothing in it is true, but it is mildly entertaining. Kind of like the time you (or someone as deluded as yourself) "revealed" that I'm divorced, despite my never having been married. I don't think I've ever even had a conversation with a state senator...

Honestly, the comment made me wish that Blogspot showed IP addresses of commenters like WordPress does, so I could try to find out who this nut is that attacks anonymity while being anonymous themselves.

Boom has done a lot more than ribbon cuttings. Try reading the paper, or watching the evening news.

Still waiting for this "proof" from QCI's stalker.

What's your take on the Chorus Line, Chris?

Let the business open.

Ask Qci how he got his job from permar? Are you going to tell me that is from his security skills! Then he was fired. Yes fired! And yes he has had a conversation with a alderman turned state sen.It was a good conversation for him tho! QCI please run for elected office. Let the public criticize and judge you as you do to others. Lets see him anwser these with total honesty then we can touch on some more.

Anonymous said...

QCI
Did you get fired by PerMar?

QuadCityImages said...

I do not discuss my job on blogs. I have never been fired from any job in my life, and I have not spoken to Hamerlinck since he was elected to state office. The person making up all this stuff is a fool.

That'll teach ya to have an open thread, QCI.

QuadCityImages said...

I guess so...

Still waiting for this evidence. Let's see QCI's pay stub from PerMar. Let's see the check from D-1. Let's see the proof. Come on Alex Jones.

QCI, you must be a living Geico commercial (I always fell like, somebody is watching me).

Conservative Demo here:
What a whacko, it looks like 9:38 and 10:42 last night and 11:50 from five days ago are all one and the same, there couldn't be more than one jerk like that.

Who cares if QCI got fired? Everyone gets fired in this day and age.

And what the F-difference does it make if he _does_ talk to politicians? Every one of us has _some_ kind of less-than-stellar friend or other that we talk with.

Anonymous said...

Not only that, but wouldn't it be a good thing to be finding politicians and talking to them about their ideas? Last I checked, that's part of the whole democracy thing we have going on here in the U.S. of A.

That guy's grip on reality appears to be tenuous, at best.
