Well, I had hoped for more discussion in the post below, but I'll stick up an open thread anyway. Partly I wanted to remind folks that Bald Eagle Days is going on Saturday and Sunday at the QCCA Expo Center.
In other news, the skatepark lights have been off before 10 the last few nights, so the naysayers prevailed on that one. I wonder what it takes for them to flip them on if we get some freak 50 degree days in January or February. If it doesn't take much to get them back on if folks want to skate or bike some warm evening, then I might not be as against having them off for the 10-below nights.
Speaking of the Eagles, the list of cities that the world's most expensive band is hitting on their tour puts the Quad Cities in pretty good company. Chicago, Orlando, Cleveland, Kansas City.... Cities that have top-level professional sports teams. And Moline. Not too bad. Now we'll see how many people can afford to go.

Looks like common sense prevailed with the lights. I guess that means “Babblin’ Barney” had nothing to do with it!
The real naysayer is cutesy eye.
How about if I start asking the city to turn out the street lights on your block if not enough cars drive by in the middle of the night?
Apples and oranges you bonehead. Just admit it was a smart move by the city. QCI sometimes you just...
How is it apples and oranges?
The point of street lights is for both safety (seeing what you're doing) and security (seeing what potential criminals are doing).

People suggest we turn off the skatepark lights because of lack of activity after dark during the winter.
I suggest we turn off your streetlights because of lack of cars driving down the street from 3-4am.
Both suggestions ignore the "security" reason and focus on the fact that no one is usually there.
Most people would say "who cares if nobody drives down my street for an hour, I don't want vandals seeing a dark street as a target." Replace "street" with "skatepark" and tell me why its different?
Also, maybe try responding without an insult for a change. It doesn't help your side of the argument.
I predict the Eagles tickets will sell out. I already have my two.
QCI, You’re starting to loose it. You’re starting to sound like your uncle Keith.
I agree completely with QCI here, and I'm sure whatever money their managing to save is microscopic in the greater budget.
As for the Eagles, there's no question that will either sell-out, or do very well. It's the Eagles. If I'm not mistaken, they have the best selling album OF ALL TIME. I wouldn't worry.
