Post-Election Open Thread

I suppose I'll allow political comments on this post as well, but then I should be returning to more local issues. In that vein, here's a picture I took this morning of the new lofts getting finished up across from the Freight House at River Drive and Scott Street. I like the color scheme. It definitely looks a lot better than it did as the Salvation Army.

Why oh why do they keep saying Obama is our first “Black President”. He is not our first “Black President”! He is far from it. To be politically correct he is our first “Mulatto President”. Why does he denounce his white heritage? His father was black but his mother was as white as a sheet. Something is wrong with this man’s psyche.

Anonymous,
An article in the new york times yesterday beat you to the punch. Apparently you hold the same view as the KKK.

White heritage? So race is a cultural as well as genetic marker? Tell that to my Russian janitor and his wife they might find the idea that we all share a white heritage humorous. Now exactly whose psyche is it that has a problem?

It is an interesting thing that mixed people are considered black rather than white, but its certainly not exclusive to Obama. To be honest, I'd say it probably dates back to more racist times where any amount of African-American in your heritage was a condemning factor.

Someday maybe we'll get to a point where worrying whether a President is white, black, arab, latino, or asian is as silly as worrying about whether they have brown, red, black, or blonde hair. We're certainly not there yet.

Have you ever heard Obama talk about his white mom and his white grandmother? He credits them 100 percent for making him the man he is. Saying he "denounces" his white heritage may be the most ignorant thing I've ever read on a blog, and that is pretty amazing.

Congratulations on being the stupidest person on the Internet, Anonymous at 8:46 p.m.!

Hi, Quadcityimages! I'm wondering if you'll attend a Davenport Promise meeting and comment? (Perhaps you already did.) I'd love to hear your opinion.

Thanks!

Condolences to Bill Boom on his partners death.

QuadCityImages said...

I hadn't heard about that, but agreed on the condolences.

Who was his partner?

Had it been the spouse or heck, the long time girlfriend/boyfriend of any other council member there would have been a story in the Times. Disappointing.

10:18 -I don't know if that's true about the Times having a story about an Alderman's wife or girlfriend passing away. I can't think of any examples in the last decade or so to look at, so its all just guessing I think.

7:54 -Check out yesterday's obits and you'll find him.

Aids complications?

Gay men die from all sorts of things. Not just AIDS. Also someone's viral status is their own business. Would you ask about any of the other council members about any STDs they or their partners have had?

Maybe he got rear ended?

The last poster....you're "humor" does not impress me...stay out of the comedy business....you would go broke trying that profession.

Jim died due to complications of CANCER.

How heartless, hateful can people be? It's obvious the "rear-ender" poster has never had a loved one that has passed of cancer. geez.
