Monday Morning Open Thread

I didn't take many pictures in Sioux Falls this year, so I've stuck an image up from my first trip there, probably 5 or 6 years ago. Falls River Park has really been fixed up over the last 10 years, and its a great downtown river-oriented park. A river you can walk over in 2 minutes is a little different from a half mile-wide river though.

This picture is small and low resolution because it was taken on an early digital camera where 20 or 30 images at a time were stored on 1.44 megabyte floppy disks. Now the images I get, even off of my cheap camera, are around a megabyte each. The cost of progress...

Really much nicer and vastly larger than the lo-res photo shows.

Saw on news this aft that the City is doing the relocating of the dead running-lady headstone? We-the-people paying for it? Or is the Cornhole Club paying the fare?

I saw KWQC out filming the future site while returning some books at the library today. I figured they'd do a story on it tonight.

Has anyone seen the hole they pulled it out of in McClellan? Its deep enough to make you wonder if she really was buried under there.

To CD:
Yes you the people are paying the bill. The Cornbelters are not happy about the deal and do not wish to participate.
But rumor has it that the child who was in therapy because of having to look at the monument has been given a clean bill of health and is now playing well with others. Life has returned to normal in the East end.

Thanks 3:14 for answering about the cost of moving.

I suppose that logically leads to:
1) Who owns the thing? Do w-t-p own it or the Corn Club? If w-t-p, I guess I have no gripe coming. If the Corn Club is the owner, well, let them put it wherever they can find a privat property owner willing to host it.
2) Who paid for the original installation? As in 1), if w-t-p own it, this question is moot.

Thanks again 3:14.

Ask Alderman Charlie Brooke, and wait for his terse response.

Beautiful picture regardless of resolution. It is funny isn't it that progress continues to eat up more space? I remember how efficient DOS programs were too when memory was expensive and now programs eat up so much memory and don't do that much more. Just prettier pictures ;)

C-D, Cornbelt paid for the initial installation but it was placed on public right of way which made it public property once installed.

The hole is quite interesting, especially with the coffin sized concrete footing exposed.

Was there really a child traumatized by the bench? Considering the movies, cartoons and video games even small children are exposed to these days I find that really hard to believe!?

Thanks 9:46, your explanation makes sense. Guess it's ours now and I can either like it or lump it.

I suspect the guy who wrote the child trauma bit was not really expecting any of us to take him seriously.
