Saturday Morning Open Thread
No images this morning, I'll give you poor dial-up people out there a break for once.
What's new in the QC that hasn't made the blogs or mainstream media?

On the 4th of July, I took my elderly father to Holy Family cemetery to pay respects to relatives. There is a house that borders the cemetery that was having a party and lighting off fire works. Not really a big deal until they were aiming them into the cemetery. What a mess! On two occasions I was almost hit. Another thing is that all the people at the party parked in the cemetery, thus blocking a road. Also, the party gravitated into the cemetery. (Mostly young children) I don't have a problem with parties, or even responsible fire works. I can even over look the parking in the cemetery, but the lack of respect was terrible! Holy Family cemetery is not the most well kept cemetery in Davenport, but it certainly deserves better than this.
There are those two Chinese steam engines sitting in the Iowa Interstate rail yards in Rock Island. So far it seems only the national railfan community knows anything about them.
As far as the Bridge To Somewhere post on the potential Ace Hardware project in Rock Island. What happened to good old competition? Is Handy True Value afraid of losing all of that Augustana College money being spent there? I find M & M Hardware and Handy both too small and would welcome a new facility with better selection, advertising and pricing to serve us here in Rock Island.
As far as the condo for the upper 10% rich on the Iowa side. Go ahead and build it. When they come, so much better for your tax base by grabbing some of that new money for public safety that you are always complaining about.
Sure wish something could be done about parking at the Farmer's Market by the ball park. It is very hard to access and exit the lot with traffic on River Drive and all of the people milling about walking in the paths of the vehicles.
I was telling my wife, as we walked around the Farmers Market (after having to park in the Ice Skating Rink parking lot). that it sure would be nice if they put this market into the Freight House. It would open up a lot more parking and not be near as HOT!!

Get it taken care of, organize the families of the dead and start talking to the authorities.
Get er done!
This was also the case over Memoriol day weekend, sans the fireworks. Very upsetting.

Do you know anything more about the Chinese steam engines?
Or any other links about them?
Here is a link explaining a little bit about their history and what Iowa Interstate is doing with them:

This is a link to a gallery of photos of them in China, Houston and finally being delivered in Rock Island:
