In honor of the 3rd Ward Primary today, I've posted a video from the upcoming TV movie Megafault, which was filmed around here. It will be airing on SyFy this Saturday night at 8pm, and definitely includes some local landmarks. In a scene that Keith Meyer or Mark Nelson could only dream about, the trailer shows downtown Davenport crumbling and collapsing during an earthquake.

I don't know about anybody else but I can say for myself I was getting sick and tired of all the phone calls from the Bill Boom campaign.
Guess Quad City Images isn't smart enough to understand the issues so he just resorts to attaching people who do. This type of behavior by a so called Davenport cheerleader is one of the reasons sucessful people stay away from the town. What do you think Nitrous 55?
No reason to go out and vote today. Boom has it made man. Thanks Images for telling it like it is.
QCI..
Thanks for the video, LOVED IT.. This is the kind of demolition even Don Decker couldn't have imagined!!!
And I dislike the auto phone calls from campaigns, but if it's volunteers, good for the candidate. It shows they have teh ability to attract 20-25 people to spend time in a common vision.
If it's auto dialers, it just shows they can spend money...
Calling people out for their public actions, such as calling downtown a failure or actively discouraging development downtown, is not a personal attack. Calling someone, for example, a "freaking crazy woman" is a personal attack.
Like #2, I hate it when QCI attaches people who understand issues. I mean, I though the guy was unattached.
5:33pm here again. I suppose before mocking people for their typos, I should proofread my own thoughTs.
I hate when that happens.
Which candidate was the autodialer promoting in the third ward?
10:11,
QCI is sniping a little with his comment about Meyer and the other guy. I doubt either of them dream to have the downtown fall apart.
I also don't think that QCI is the reason that "sucessful people" stay away from town. Who are these people? Why, if they are so sucessful, would they let some blogger who has, at most 100 people reading it , influence their business decisions? I know, I'm sniping there. I don't think any of the local blogs are that powerful to sway most people in the city. The blogs can be a good place to find a few tidbits of news and a big heaping of Barbara Streisand.

Hah - thanks for the video! Man, what was Brittney Murphy thinking signing up for the steaming pile of Sci-Fi crap?
Anyway, congrats to Boom. I was happy to see it wasn't even close.
Elliot is asking for a recount-what a loser.
"Calling someone, for example, a "freaking crazy woman" is a personal attack."
Acually, that proved to be a true fact!
Elliot has the right to ask for a recount.
If that upsets you, then ask the next council change the rules to allow only the first count no matter how close the vote is or accusations of fraud.

Can we see the paperwork signed by a doctor stating this "freaking crazy woman" is crazy? I never heard of Dr. Anonymous, so I have no idea of your medical training. Maybe you earned your degree from AJU. You can include it with the documents I asked about QCI (I'm still waiting for those).

Shelley is the person who called Oritz signs big and ugly.Go by her house on east River drive with the new ugly sign for the woman who is running in the 5th. Fried brains for horror durves. Just guessing, but down the pipe its comming at you.
Shelley you have a chance now to correct the record. Would you please be honest and tell us who really has the best looking signs this election season? I have to admit that Ortiz signs are far and away the best looking signs. You should call him for one. I know I have! I will vote for Ortiz At-Large. I hope you take the time to meet him also. I think he is the best candidate for that position.
Wasn't Shelley one of the John Lewis employee that helped rip the taxpayers off. Don't know if an Oritz sign would look nice in her yard. But its a free world. Go for it if it gives you rummies.
nobody has filled us in yet on who the autodialer was promoting in the third ward.
I can tell you the autodialer was not Paul Vasquez. He went door to door hearing what people had to say.
Alexander Vasquez
Anyone who has seen shelly in action knows she's a few fries short of a happy meal.
;)
QCI have you met Mr.Ortiz yet? What a nice family man. And he has a very nice personality. I had a very comfortable conversation with him. Just curious if you have taken the time?
Why do we need to know where Shelly may or may not have worked? Are we that shallow? Who gives a rip?
Also, Mr. Ortiz, I'm sure, he is the salt of the earth. I'd like to know what he would like to do on the council. What ideas he has on making this a better city. Not that he has a pleasant personality. That is what they say about fat ugly chicks.

Nobody said it was an autodialer calling in the third ward, what I said was I was tired of the Bill Boom campaign calling my home over 6 times. I already made up my mind who I was voting for, I always vote and don't need a campaign calling to remind me or asking me if I need an absentee ballot and so on it was becoming annoying.
The Boom camp has never used an auto dialer, and will never do so. The Boom campaign did it the old fashioned way...volunteers. I know this to be fact, because I was one of them.
We are truly sorry if we contacted some folks more than they liked, but felt that they needed to get out and vote, especially in the 3rd ward. Many people did not even know that there was a primary. (the only one in Davenport) and wanted to get the word out.
Congrats to Bill, the ward has shown their appreciation for the hard work you have done, and the current council & Mayor Gluba. Also, thanks to Paul Vasquez, and or, Mike Elloitt for running a good, CLEAN campaign. See one of ya in November!!
A Boom volunteer
P.S. Boom has walked this ward as well, and will continue to do so until November talking to the 3rd ward voters as he always has.
I'm all for changing the rules. A special insert in the local papers stating what the candidate stands for or ideas he/she has, a few meet the candidate forums and debates, and allow them to go door to door (as long as they respect other's request not to be bothered). No phone calls or signs. It would help take the money aspect out of it.

i know the comments have had little to do with the movie trailer, but that movie looks awful. the special effects/cgi is terrible. it doesn't look realistic at all. looks like some dude spent his weekend with an imac cutting the scenes together. awful!
I don't think too many people watch a Saturday night SyFy disaster movie expecting great visual effects.
As far as Mr. Ortiz, I've never run into him. He didn't make a good first impression with the sign ordinance violation, but everybody makes mistakes.
Boom kicked off his campaign in a City park complete with signs and the police had to have him take them down. What was your impression of that Images.
Both parties have political rallies, cook outs, fundraisers, etc. in city/public parks all the time. Who cares above poster. Things must be going pretty well if that is all u have to complain about!
If the cops asked Boom to take down the signs and he did, what is the problem? 4:54 is right. If that is all you can say, Boom must not be doing too bad of a job.
Why not report about your guy? Let us know his ideas or plans? That is a better way to get your guy elected than reporting in where Shelly or QCI work or had worked.

Ms. Lippy's car...is green.
Has anyone heard about having a re-count from the 3rd ward primary between Vasquez & Elliott? I heard it is going to be on Monday, but have not seen, or heard much about it. I know that there is a 1 vote difference between the two candidates. QCI, do you know what would happen if this would end up in a tie? Pull a name out of the hat like the mayoral in Rock Island? Just curious.
I could be wrong about this, but I believe Mr Elliott ran for county auditor and in that campaign he naturally stressed the importance of accuracy and good audits and the reliability and verifiability of elections. All that's pretty reasonable, I think.
So now, with this 1-vote difference, he has the chance to have a thorough hand-count. It's a great opportunity to really "look under the hood".
Let's see that one ballot that was counted as having no vote; does it really look that way when a human examines it? What about those two over-votes; when a human looks at it is there clear voter intent? What about those 3 write-ins; maybe someone wrote in one either Elliott or Vasquez?
For someone really interested in election processes (and thank goodness there are such people!), this 1-vote margin recount is like a wet dream.
I believe the machines are very accurate due to many recounts I have seen, but with an extremely close count such as one vote, there is room for a small margin to change the outcome of any election. But when you look at 10 or more votes, it's generally over.
Any election that comes down to 1 vote has every right in the world to a recount. It shouldn't take too long or cost too much to count 600 or so ballots. There was a QCTimes article about it the other day, and it stated many of the same things that people commented here, as far as Elliot wanting to make sure the system works.
I really don't think it matters that there is a recount of votes. Boom has done a great job and he is very grounded. I win bet Boom wins in a land slide. I've dealt with Vasquez and he has "little man" syndrome. As far as Ortiz, he lost my vote along time ago with those obnoxious signs.
In the Know.
Well as a supporter of Mr. Ortiz as a number of past responders have stated that if "Mr. In the Know" is so bothered by what he calls obnoxious signs is costing him his vote then he must have one heck of a boring and unexciting life. These type of comments are why these blogs only have 50-100 people reading them. The city gave him permission from day 1 for his signs. If it was wrong why did the city allow them to stay up. So I will believe the city instead of these sign complainers!
One more time and for the last time.
THE CITY FROM DAY 1 SAW THEM, KNEW OF THEM, AND EVEN THE ELECTED OFFICIALS COMPLIMENTED HIM ON THEM!!
How can it be wrong????
OLD out-dated ordiances that are not enforced are just a tool to complain about!
He is the best candidate for AT-Large! The votes will show that!
In The Know
Yes, my father is a little man. He's all of 5'7" on his best day. I tell him to wear big shoes and tall hats but he doesn't listen.
You have "dealt" with my father in the past. That's interesting phraseology. It suggests that you and he did not see eye to eye. I can tell you from painful experience that if you had a logically or legally indefensible position, he let you know it in no uncertain terms and you're likely still smarting from the experience. It's all right. I've never really gotten over his refusal to let me buy a muscle car when I was a teenager so I know how you probably feel.
(I'm also in the know, and I am not anonymous.)
Alexander Vasquez
Elliott, Vasquez recount....I find it amusing that the day after the election Elliott threw his support to Vasquez in the QCT's, and then 2 days later ordered a recount. (Which I believe he has that right to do so.) But I find it interesting that both parties had to agreed to a 3rd party observer for the recount, for which they both have agreed to is Keith Meyer.
People sure make "strange" bed fellows in the 3rd ward!
1 candidate suing the city
1 candidate a tea partyer
1 former alderman
wow, only in the 3rd.
Just another reason I will be voting Boom.
Maybe you could state why anyone else should vote for Boom outside of bashing the others. Oops. I forgot. That is how politics work around here.

He has worked his tail off to represent EVERYONE in the 3rd ward to make it a more positive place to call home for many.
He has always come to talk with me on issues facing my neighborhood when it was needed. I never have gotten that response with many of my past aldermen. I have attended more ward meetings, and yes, he has been to every one of them and suggest possible solutions, and has followed threw. He generally has made a difference and gets the job done. All I see from his opponents is them stating the problems, and no solutions.
They remind me of the skit..."Mr. Obvious."
That is why I am voting Boom.
The recount is over, and the vote stands as is. There no change in vote totals, and the vote will be certified. Onto November 3rd.
Vasquez vs Boom
Maybe stating the good things or ideas of your guy instead of name calling, Mr. Obvious.
What are his ideas on crime? Does he expect the citizens to play a role and help the police?
Let's hear what your guy (any of the candidates) has to offer and leave the name calling out.

The comments about Paul, Mike and Keith are pretty lame
RE: Megafault
If an earthquake does actually erupt across the midwest- my god I hope we shoot lasers at it.
That would be silly. You have to shoot the freeze-beam at them.
and if not lasers, laser cats.
How about getting some frickin sharks with lasers on their heads?
