Its days like today that explain why firefighters and police are well-paid.
This morning there were nonstop accidents, especially out on the interstate and in the country.
The fire department had to respond to dozens if not hundreds of power lines down calls, and even the Chief was out checking on them. They had people out in almost every vehicle they could find.
There was also a fire out where they're building the new Great Escape Pool and Billiards out on Elmore.
You'd think maybe criminals would take a day off during this, but there were 2 major incidents. The first one was a strong-arm robbery or home invasion which I believe was up near 15th and Iowa. (Cruiser's hood, I think) Apparently the victim was assaulted and threatened with a gun, and had an X-box stolen.
The second incident was originally sent out as a man trying to kill himself by cutting off his leg. Soon after the cops arrived they called out that shots were fired, and later explained that he came at them with a knife and they were forced to fire. Here's an early QCTimes article about it.
Not a great day.
I suspect than many of you won't be reading this today as a lot of people are still out of power. My power hasn't been out at all today, but the cable and internet were off for several hours this afternoon. It sounds like its going to be several days before everything is back to normal.

My power in East Moline was out for seven hours from 4:00 to 11:00pm.
And even a rougher day for "Judi" and her stupid comment on te QC Times site.
The Police were all around 15th. and Iowa, but since our power was out I didn't hear it. We seen the Police when my son an I went for a walk. The suicidal guy died of injuries today. We also had some grafitti artists out around 12th. and Pershing in that mess. Another day in the hood.
Cruiser, The 15th and Iowa was a home invasion. Armed with a hand gun, all this clown wanted was an X-box.
Thanks Joe for clearing that up. Our power was out for quite a while so we didn't hear much.
More fights at North Park tonight, this time one outside of Barns and Noble in the parking lot.
Yeah, I was at the mall and saw the police car and the security mobile hustling toward that area. I thought about checking out the action but decided against it.
Is it just me or does this home invasion stuff make you want to round up the "troups" for an old school neighborhood watch solo? A carjacking at Locust and Grand (reported as West end), and a home invasion. I live SOLO around arlington and 15th, I'm not running for the hills, I love my home, neighbors, etc. But enough is enough? Anybody willing to walk the streets in this neighborhood to help keep our own homes and neighbors a little "safer"?
Im just waiting for an Palmer or Ambrose student to get killed to wake up the city council to implement something immediately
It'll take a soccer mom from the 6th ward before city wakes up.
Unless there was another carjacking, it was Locust and Gaines.
I really don't see what the Sixth ward has to do with anything. If you are refering the Alderman Frink and Howard, they are Alderman-at-Large. These folks are voted in by the city in whole. Get over it and stop the smear campaign. It's as bad as the Lubell vs. Hean crap from years ago.
