Non-negative Open Thread
Yeah right, but I can always dream. Do your random talking/insulting the blog author here, and keep the above thread for Where in the QC is this? guesses.

Hopefully Davenport will never hire Newmann Monson again. The three things they have designed have a common thread - they all suck. The new jail has great eye appeal, and also in Moline, the Ground Transportation center and Parking Deck look wonderful. Whomever Scott County and the City of Moline is using, the City of Davenport should follow their lead.
Apparently River Drive has opened up. That will eliminate a ton of traffic that has been using my street during the water main break. This is a positive for many people.
Does anyone think there's a chance the Isle will pull the plug completely on their Davenport operation and consolidate their QC efforts in Bettendorf where they've made substantial land-based investments? The IOC is closing other underperforming casinos and sinking a bunch of money in new markets.
The IOC properties in the QC aren't losing money. Their revenues have dropeed significantly, but they are far from losing at this point. They still contribute a great deal of money to the cities and events here. My guess is that they'll scale back investments until some of the excitement wears off of Riverside, perhaps a full calendar year, before taking any more decisive action.
If the Isle leaves Davenport, then RDA will just find another casino to operate their gaming license. Like Dave said, they're not losing money, they're just not raking in as much as they used to. I kind of wish IOC would leave at this point, as they've treated Davenport like crap all along.
The IOC was supposed to make an announcement about the MethLab hotel they are trying to unload on the city for a buck today. Anyone know the facts on the new proposal?
Alderman Meyer, for the Thursday Committee Meetings, could you request a presentation for the proposed transfer of the Blackhawk to the City. Ask for an explanation on how much it has cost the city in staff time already, and what it will cost us in the future including any incentives. Also, have Clayton explain how this could possibly put Davenport taxpayers in a better position than the city staying out of it, and the transfer go directly from the IOC to a new developer. If their is any financial risk involved with this, there should be a document drawn to hold the IOC responsible, and not Davenport.
Last I heard, the city was never going to take possession. I had heard that the "option to buy" would be transfered from the city to whichever developer gets the nod. This could have changed, though.
Thank-you alderman meyer for getting the CIP budget meeting on the city channel. This was very good and informative. It appears that there will be many more budget meetings, and please keep pushing for them to be on cable so everyone that is interested can hear the facts.
The CIP budget meeting was on at 11 a.m. today (saturday). I have not seen a schedule for this, or future meetings, but maybe Alderman Meyer could enlighten those of us who are interested.
The time of the next budget meeting is up in the air due to schedule problems. It was to have been Thursday, after the Community Development meeting, and is now likely, but not certain, to be Saturday morning the 17th. Keith
Davenport Detectives have been examining your recovered laptop Alderman Meyer, and your in the clear - it's only been used for official business. But the hard drive shows that Shabonnie has been regularly logging into some Poodle Porn Sights. :)
Sorry, I know you said not be negative, but I'm hopping mad. In the spirit of "Black History" month, two upstanding black youth just assaulted and injured my son for his cell phone and because he's white. This is what they told him as they pounded his face in. The cowards hid behind big hooded coats, so my son couldn't make an i.d. He was walking home from a friend's house only a few blocks away. Way to go guys. I'm sure all the brave black men and women who came before you and suffered REAL injustice are real proud of you. You're a disgrace to your heritage.
Here's a postive. The water main break caused drivers to navigate central city neighborhoods for several days. After the first day of being pissed they may have actually taken a hard look around. Would love to hear their impressions. OK yea we'll only get annecdotal observastions, but that could be interesting. Can you start a thread on this QCI. Be prepared it may not all be positive.
To 12:54 - the CIP Budget meeting was on the city cable channel at 11am and 9pm on Saturday, so it's a good bet that the show times will be the same today on Sunday. It's too bad that schedule doesn't appear on the TV guide channel, as it seems like it would be easy to program it so people could see what time these meetings are broadcast.
Alderman Meyer, in the CIP meeting there was a line item for a new Central Fire Station. Where is the proposed address for that new building? Also Dee said that Davenport builds one new building each ten years, so when we built 2 new parking ramps not long ago, seems like we didn't wait enough time inbetween the next new project.
The budget meeting also discussed the DMA (old museum) needing a very expensive roof. Seems like we spent a bundle on that building not long ago, when Parks and Wrecks moved to that building from Fevruary Park. How can that roof be leaking already? 2) More money going to Annie Whittenmeyer. It's about time we unload that money pit. Each year we spend too much money on something that we don't get much bang for the buck. 3) Nothing was said about repair of the alleys, and there are many in the 3rd ward SOL, that are about impassible. The city always wants neighbors to circulate a petition, then pay half of that repair. We are paying enough in taxes and fees now that there should be some room to spend some of the CIP funds on alley repairs.
The flaw with the alley program is that it is about impossible to get 50% of the landowners on the alley to sign the petition. In the neighborhoods that have an alley, most of them are rentals, and the landlords live in Bettendorf. The landlords don't care what the condition of the alley is, so they don't want to pay the half required by the city. To make this flawed program work, it needs to be 50% of owner-occupied-homeowners that need to be in agreement, and no consideration of rentals, contract sales, or the infamous rent to own.
The site of the Central fire station hasn't been decided. As I understand it the money is for design. We all know site has no relationship to design.:)
Where do you all think the new station should go? Be sure and tell us if you own the land there. Keith
Not knowing the site before having the plans drawn is job security for the City Planners, and their relatives who work for Newman Monson. That way, instead of just drawing plans once and going for it, the taxpayers can pay for revisions.

I hope the RDA leaves too. Maryellen is a pimp.
The RDA hurts us and helps attract homeless people to our city to suck on the bossom of the taxpayers.
The announcement was pretty vague on the 6 p.m. news. They said something like 'more information coming soon on the new developments'.
Still with the homeless comments.
Oy Vey!

The CIP presentation is available online too, but that may not be very useful to those of you with WebTV or dialup.

Tear down the Shrciker Keith and make it the new site.
I second that...
And hopefully don't tear down the old Central Station.
