More Images! Hilltop District Conceptual Drawings

I'm involved with the Hilltop Campus Village project, which is part of Main Street Iowa's Urban Neighborhood District program. Basically the idea is to inject new life and create more of a campustown feel in the general area between Ripley and Perry, and between 5th and Locust. As part of this process, the Iowa Department of Economic Development paid a Design Consultant to draw up some conceptual drawings of some potential facade improvements along the corridor. Here are five of them (one has two angles), and I think they all look good. Hopefully we see some real progress on this. One of the things that I like about these suggestions is that few of them would require very large expenditures, yet all of them together would make quite an impact on the Hilltop District.

As always, click on the images for a closer look.

Some looked nice. Others I didn't care for. Of course, a drawing and the real thing may end up two different things. Some houses near me are painted in combinations that I thought would look butt ugly. Once fully painted, the house looked great.

A lot of those drawings look fantastic. It's nice to see some planning coming along.

What ideas came were discussed for the lot at 14th and Harrison where the apartment building burnt down and now is just a vacant lot?

I'm glad that someone's working on the area. Those all look like good ideas. I hope they make it to execution!

Have never seen QCI in any of the eating establishments on Hilltop and I go there several times a week. Support, support, support is much more important than facade.

5:23,
I didn't know that supporting an area meant you had to use every single business within the area. I assume that in order for you to call me out on that, that you go to both barber shops, the magic store, all 4 churches, and both colleges in the area as well? Some of you negative folks are ridiculous.

QCI must have be the cutest guy in Davenport or some of you have no life. QCI isn't telling you how to spend your money. Spend your money where you like and let others spend theirs where they like.

Facade development leads to support from people who once would never have thought of entering a building. Business owners call these people... wait whats the word... Customers. Patronizing a business just because it needs support pales in comparison to advocating community wide change to make that business (or businesses) viable on their own merits.
Those merits include their facade. I never would have considered going to one of the Hilltops bars until I was coerced into one for a Birthday Party- all because of how it looked on the outside.
