Friends to Elect Robby Ortiz

It's only July but I already know Im voting for Robbe Ortiz for At-Large and Ray Ambrose for Alderman. I just need to see and meet the Mayoral candidates and then I will be all set to vote!
I don't think being connected to Alderman Ambrose is a good strategy to win an At-Large seat in Davenport. I don't know anything about Mr. Ortiz, so I'll hold my judgment until I hear more about his positions.
How about the featured speaker at his event being Shaun Hamerlinck? That kills it for me.
So who will be the "establishment" candidate for Frink's seat?
Don't know anything about Mr. Ortiz but it will be great to get some new people trying for city office. Just hope he isn't a bought and paid for guy of Dav One's. I'll go check out the meet and greet, and it will be good to see Mr. Hamerlinck. I miss his monthly ward meetings.
If Ortiz is anything like Ambrose, he will get my vote.
Glad to see some new blood out there. I sure hope the 7th ward can come up with someone besides "Babbling Barney".
If Ortiz is anything like Ambrose, he won't get my vote.
I get a kick out of people saying we need "new blood". Didn't we get that after the last election with five or six "new bloods"?
I agree with Nancy, If Ortiz is like Ambrose and Shawn, Im all for him. Beware Ortiz, if you are like shawn and Ambrose you will be hit hard by D-1,by bloggers, and you will win.
When's the last time a candidate that sides with Hamerlinck or Ambrose won a city-wide seat? Sometime in the 1990s?
See Bowles, Niky (Mayor race of)
I thank everyone's comments good or bad. I would only hope that everyone uderstands I am my own candidate for Alderman At-Large. I make no promises to anyone but the residents of Davenport. I will run my campaign with transperancy and honesty. Please talk to me once before drawing any conclusions either way. Thanks Robby www.ortizatlarge.com
Good for you Robby, I wish you well. But get ready for a bumpy ride when it come to these blogs.(They are mean and typically facts have no relevance)
I have lived in Davenport a long time, and I dont remmember there ever being a non 'Davenport One' at -large. I dont think the 'man -of- the- people' type have enough money to beat D-1.
Sad to say, but true. But we have some great Alderman. Mine does a good job.
So Nancy, you are basically saying that if Mr. Ortiz is brain-dead, he'll get your vote?
Mr. Ortiz, if you would like to be seen as your own candidate, you should think twice about your associations. Placing yourself in the company of Ambrose and Hamerlinck will, for better or worse, influence a person's first impression of you, and you know what they say about first impressions.
Checking out his website, there's a list of business supporters provided. Not to malign the whole group, but some of those supporters raised a red flag for me personally, as I don't see them as particularly competent or professional (this from personal experience). Also Robby, I'm sorry if it sounds trivial, but if you've been associated with Emeis Park for 15 years, you would do well to spell the name of the park correctly on your website.
He told me that he just wanted Davenport citizens to have a rare opportunity to voice their concerns or appreciations to 1 of only 50 state senators who would not otherwise be able to in person.
Ignore the negative bloggers Robby. (See them Bashing two good elected officals). The bloggers are a seperate group amoung themselves. Good Luck and please Robby dont do negative campaigning!
Yes, Robby, that's it, ignore the negative bloggers. After all, we don't vote in elections, so who cares what we think?
Actually, I don't consider my the negative type, but so far all I've seen to make a judgment about Mr. Ortiz is whom he has chosen to associate himself with, and those folks are not the type I want to see running the city. If you want to be your own candidate, how about providing some real information beyond the stale political platitudes of God and family? You say you own your own business, how about telling us more about that? How do you propose to double the budget for street repairs? That money has to come from somewhere. You vaguely mentioned public safety, does that mean more cops and firemen? Because if that's the case, you'll have to pay for those as well, and if you're familiar with the city's budget, you know that they already take up about two-thirds of it.
Not trying to be negative, just trying to be a better informed voter. It's every citizens duty to do so.
The impossible promise of more services and less taxes and fees got Hamerlinck and some others elected. It may still be a good campaign strategy, despite its obvious logical flaws.
If not mistaken street budget passed 10-0 to double it. So if the next council voted the same way, would that not require any thing to be cut because it already was cut this year???
Robby Ortiz,
How do you feel about the City of Davenport giving money to DavenportOne every year?
How did you vote on Davenport Promise?
Do you think the City should be spending money on a riverfront sprayground or on the sewer diversion tunnel for the west end?
What is your position on parking meters in downtown Davenport?
How would you clean up Duck Creek?
Are property taxes too high in Davenport?
What specifically should we be doing about crime in the central city?
Do you think the City takes care of its existing parks?
Being a successful alderman is all about correct decision making. Robby made his first bad choice by having his meet and greet at a 'saloon' which has a history of police calls.
The meeting should have been scheduled at a public place, or even his backyard.

Dav. 1- Depends on what money is used for. Need to be accountable for the money and more transperancy with the money.
Promise- I would of voted NO because there was not enough private money and commitment.
Parking Meters- They need to stay to pay for 2 parking ramps(9-10 mil remaining) if you take them out they will raise property taxes to make up the losses for payment on those ramps.
Duck Creek- More focused strategy With city, groups, and community service hours.
Property Taxes- Compared to other cities in the area No Need to maintain and grow Davenport. But not raise them also.
Crime Central City- Continue the NETS program. And help from landlords and neighbors.
Parks- Some better than others. I would put more money into our parks.Especially Vander Veer Park. What a Gem.
Good luck Mr. Ortiz.
Just a suggestion - You might want to use an editor for your written responses.
Annon 10:44pm
At least his responses are more coherent and grammatically correct than a previous 3rd Ward rep.
Do you mean Caldwell, Ann Corbi's husband or the late Dan somebody?
Yard Signs- It appears it is election season in Davenport again, after seeing those damn signs up already. I'd like to asked the zoning commission why they haven't asked that these signs be pulled. Didn't we have this problem last cycle. I thought it wasn't allowed until 45 days before election day, and here we are 70 plus days away from the primary itself. Remove the signs Mr. Ortiz. Clean up our city.
Ortiz has a yard sign about the size of a billboard in front of Ganzo's Taco's on Marquette.
There should be a limit on the size of signs that candidates can put up.
There are limits.
What about all the "Rock the River" signs that are in the public right of way?
Don't worry Robby, dumb decisions won't hurt you. Alderman Boom kicked off his campaign in a City Park with signs and all. The neighbors called the police and he had to take them down. Not very smart. But you can't be smarter than you are.
QCI, can you give us a rundown on the rules for campaign signs? Are they governed by municipal code? Because if they are, and if Robby's signs are too big, I don't think I would want someone who callously disregards that code for his own benefit legislating on it.
Signs, signs, everywhere signs .......
do this, don't do that ..... can't you read the sign?
I've posted the political sign ordinance in its own post.
His sign is not bigger then a billboard, and they allow bill boards. Is 6:28 pm another At- large candiaite waiting in the shadows?....I think so...
How about the fact that we don't need these signs cluttering up the city for a third of the year every other year?
I read the code that QCI posted and will have my signs down within the next couple of days. I have a heavy work load the next couple of days but will get to them as soon as possible. I am sorry if I offended anyone. I will follow the rules as they are written. I look forward to meeting and talking to everyone on the campaign trail. Thanks for your understanding on this matter!!
Robbie,
If you have not the sense to even inquire about the election rules, how can I trust you with my tax dollars? Wise up pal and tell Hammerstink to stay home. One of the biggest "bobbleheads" in city politics history.
Walnut.
go away walnut
Lead by example pal.
Walnut.
Damn signs are still up. Figures, can't trust a politician
Walnut is the same guy who caused all sorts of problems in the last election. Don't listen to it. It is a coward and can't hurt you. It tried to do that at a candidate of high ethical standards last time and it blew up in it's face.
Qci i know you have never been married, let alone even had a date in the last year or two. I want to take this one at a time. Did Mr Duffy ever give you as job as a favor to someone at D1? I know you were fired. Second you did try to talk to a alderman turned state senator. And it wasnt the most pleasant for you. You are going to say you haven't been contacted by D1 regarding anything at all ever? Qci the reson I am exposing things about you is that you find it easy to do to others thinking they dont know who you are and know nothing about you and your situations at home and lack of other things in your life. Why dont you please enter the election arena and be scrutinized the same way you do to others. Your opinions are so strong please get involved and make a differance in the public arena if you think your beliefs are so right. You wouldnt last a min or have a chance in h...! I beg of you to come out of your parents basement and come to a ward meeting and let everyone know who you are or a city council meeting during public with business. I never see you there. Why??? please come out from behind the coputer screen and be like the other candidates and take it how you dish it out. But I suspect you wont you are not that type of guy and will hide behind the accusation lines and we will lose line like you always do! Why is it you dont get many viewers to this blog. They know the small group who think this blog is credible.
