It was 47º and windy when I left for the skatepark ribbon cutting, so I figured there'd be like a dozen skaters and the usual ribbon cutting folks and city officials. Instead, as I got near the skatepark I saw tons of cars and I'd say 200-300 people. There were probably 100 bikers and skaters. The kids seemed pretty good about taking turns so they weren't all crashing into each other constantly.
City officials, some kids, parents, etc, all freezing their ears off.
The fire department set up one of their tower trucks with the American flag hanging from the ladder.
The skatepark, with kids, the crowd, and downtown Davenport in the background.
The new parking lot, full of cars, and our city administrator as the only person over 40 (or maybe even 30) using the skatepark today. There were a ton of kids at this event, and they all seemed very excited about the new park. Its probably the first and only time that 100 kids cheered the Mayor.

I can't believe that you missed a shot of Chief Bladel trying out one of Malin's boards! It was very cool! All kinds of kids-pros to novices. It will be a great thing for the neighborhood.
Yet, this guy would never be seen hanging around the Rainbow District. Unfortunately, some 1950's bigot is trying to tie openly gay people to child molesters over on Colonel Davenport's article. It makes no sense. Even if he disagrees with homosexuality, its just not the same group of people that is into molesting kids. Its more... well, guys that look like Don Vito.
I haven't been able to tell how in the world they drain that thing. Common sense tells me it won't turn into a swimming pool when it rains. I'm just curious.
Winding Hills, do you wake up in the morning with negative thoughts? Why can't you ever write something positive?
winding valley...There are drains in the bottom and until some kid fills them with drycrete the water will run out.
In some cities the parks like this provide the dupe pushers a location to get youth involved in obtaining and selling drugs. Hate to be negative, but it has happened. The location is such that it will be a place. We will need to put some cops (undercover) there from time to time.
We don't know about the gays being a problem as has been written in other blogs. It will depend on the hours of operation, etc. Most of the gays will not bother the youth. Maybe only the Priests.
