RiverVision: Centennial Park
When I was given a handout about Centennial Park at the skatepark event, I kind of thought to myself, "Yep, the same plan I've seen dozens of times already." Thinking about it more though, aside from the people who really follow this stuff, I doubt many people have seen the full River Vision plan. Here's a large image (if you click on it) of the current plan for Centennial Park. I believe the brighter areas are considered Phase 1, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

What are they going to do for parking at JOD? If the only option is the $2 parking, people are going to complain. Hopefully, they keep some free parking somewhere. Otherwise, I really like the look of it. What took us so long to capitalize on our riverfront?
The original Hargreaves plan had about half of the parking that you see in the image on this thread. When I saw that at one of the meetings, I was pretty much horrified, but I was assured that more parking would be added. The parking area west of the Centennial was pretty much doubled, but its still somewhat less than currently exists.
I don't think this will be a big problem for 3 reasons:
1.The whole current lot is only needed a few times a year, such as opening day, free-nights of various sorts, All-Star Game, etc
2.Depending what happens with the Freight House, that lot east of the Keene lot could become more available for baseball parking. Also the new skatepark lot will be available to those who don't mind walking.
3. At least in the conceptual plan, it appears that the JOD under-Centennial parking lot would be paved and lined. Organized parking with painted lines would probably double the number of cars that could park in that same area. Picture the way that lot is now at games: the aisles are about 40 feet wide and cars kind of zig-zag all over the place.
Yet another option would be to run (free) shuttle buses from other lots or parking garages on nights where a big crowd is expected. I know I won't miss the massive gravel/dirt parking lot that is essentially Centennial Park right now.
I missed all that paved & lined parking under the bridge. I won't miss the current gravel lot, either.
I have been downtown more and more lately and appalled by the parking situation. The meters are so limited and the tickets are so high. We should fire DavOne - they are doing very little to promote the downtown and we spend so much money on them. We need to make the streets safer in order to get people to come to Davenport. No ones freaking gets that.
Aren't the tickets $15?
